I would like to know more about this: how exactly is the CDTOC field accessed?
In the UI somewhere? in a DSP/plug-in? via scripting?

When ripping a 2 CD set, and the disc information doesn't auto-fill, you can do a manual search.
However, I've just done a 2 cd release this way. Disc one filled the details in correctly. But when I put disc 2 in, I had to do a manual search for the album again.
But instead...
