Re: Convert Protected AAC to MP3

There are two ways around converting copy protected musicthis:

OPTION 1.

iRevolt

That's iRevolt. It removes the DRM protection thingy or whatever off the protected file

Here is another program that removes copy protection, called JHymn
Windows version
Macintosh Version

Hymn does the same thing as iRevolt. Removes the copy protection.

Option 2:

Use dMC's Auxiliary Input function to record the song WHILE the song is in the progress of being played. Then convert that newly acquired file to mp3.

Re: Convert Protected AAC to MP3

Where did this copy-protected AAC come from? Did iTunes make a copy-protected AAC file from a CD-rip?

There's not an option for adding copy-protection in iTunes like there is in WMP. I'd say this protected AAC is probably an iTunes Music Store purchase or freebie (thank you Pepsi).

So Neil's list is right, though just as a friendly FYI about Hymn, the developer that started Hymn has now pretty much abandonded updating from 0.7.1, and now JHymn (a Java child of the Hymn code with FairKeys, conversion, and some other features built in) is the official software distributed from that site. Find it at the link below if youre looking for something that removes the protection and you didn't like/dont want to use iRevolt.

JHymn http://hymn-project.org/jhymndoc/

Edit: Important Note:Note that Apple has recently (03/21/05) changed the way that iTunes interfaces with their Phobos server so most DRM-Workaround programs have ceased to work.

This might be the explanation for my iRevolt choking and delivering errors then eeh?

Any work around?

Re: Convert Protected AAC to MP3

Try using the latest version of JHymn and see if it works.

Re: Convert Protected AAC to MP3

I've heard from friends that iRevolt doesn't work so well anymore.

Re: Convert Protected AAC to MP3

The latest version of JHymn is supposed to work with even the latest iTunes protection. Try using JHymn instead.

Same friends that say you can't move music off of the iPod onto a hard drive? iRevolt and JHymn have both been fixed for a while now. I don't have issues removing any encryption from iTMS purchases, or negotiating with Apple's servers. At least, the application has worked on the new System of a Down album I purchased last week, and it worked this week on a White Stripes track.

Re: Convert Protected AAC to MP3

Sadly, yes, the same friends. They all have first to third generation iPods...does that help?

I have a 20GB 3rd Gen. No problems with it.
