CD Ripper bug on silent track?

I just tried ripping the CD Music Evolution by the group Buckshot Lefonque. Unfortunatley I encountered a problem ripping this CD, that didn't occur when using EAC. Specifically, the last track of the CD wouldn't rip at all. The error message is as follows:

    Error ripping to Wave, 'Track 16' to 'H:\WAV\Buckshot LeFonque\Buckshot LeFonque - Music Evolution - 16 - ...And We Out.wav'
Unable to read CD, check CD disc (frame LBA 289530) [clRipperSecure::Rip]
I should point out that the last track features a long period of silence, before a new hidden song starts. Could this be the cause of the problem?

The ripper seems to get to the end of the track before stopping with the error message. It does not cotinue on the a second pass (the CD wasn't found in the AccurateRip database).

I am using an LG4167 DVD burner to rip the CD.

One other issue I found was the ripper application crashes when trying to over write files. I get a dialog box asking me to confirm I want to over write files, as soon as I select overwrite the application crashes. This involves simply ripping to WAV files.

Note: I realise that this post should be in the Discussion of dMC R12 Alpha thread. Sorry!

Can you take a screen shot of the overwrite page please.

On the columns for track listing right click on Ripping Status title and enable the column End LBA, what is the end lba address for that last track?

This is ShowsOn, I'm replying with a different account because I forgot my password, but couldn't get the server to send me my password details (I waited 5 hours, but got bored.)

The end LBA for the last track of the Buckshot Lefonque CD is 289530. So the rip is failing at the very last frame! This does not happen in EAC which test & copy rips the CD in secure mode without any problems.

Regarding the overwrite crashing issue, here are some screen captures. I hope they help:

About the overwrite, the cd has 16 tracks? any ideas how 32 tracks are listed?

I originally had "read into Lead-in or Lead-out" off, because I didn't know if my drive supports this feature. However I turned it on, then shut down and restarted the CD ripper, but it still can not rip the last track.

I have no idea why it is listing every track twice. I tried putting checks next to ALL the tracks, but it still produces a crash. I'm ripping to a 2 disc RAID set up.

Now I've received an error when trying to extract the first track of a CD. Unlike the other CD, this is a very scratched CD:

                Error ripping to FLAC, 'Track 1' to 'H:\FLACNEW\Ben Harper\Fight For Your Mind\01 - Oppression.flac'
Unable to read CD, check CD disc (frame LBA 3470) [clRipperSecure::Rip]
The end LBA for the first track is 13435.

I am ripping using an LG4167 burner, connected to the nForce 4 controller on my motherboard. Athlon 64 X2 CPU, 2 GB RAM.

I had some time to configure my other DVD drive BenQ1640 to work with the CD ripper. I was able to rip the last track of the Buckshot LeFonque CD no problems with that drive. It doesn't do C2 so I used the Ultra Secure mode, and it said all tracks ripped securely.

Such a failure is a failure of the drive to communicate back to the computer, look in Windows Event Viewer and a low level error will be logged, which is not good (I have a drive that does this, if the drive cannot read a badly scratched cd, it reverts to PIO transfer and fails for every read after that until the primary IDE controller is removed and readded to the system).

I'm telling you spoon, i get that unable to read cd error allll the time, every now and then on a bad scratched cd i get insecure. I can do it right now though, a fingerprint causes unable to read cd..

Usually if I have a badly scratched cd I just make a cd to cd copy using Nero and if that worked, the new cd will likely be read ok after that.
Of course you'dneed Nero or another program that can do that.

dBpowerAMP Audio CD Input may not be the best for cd-to-cd copies since it will always atempt to convert.

There are several solutions to the DMA fallback to PIO behavior available here:

Of interest are the registry edits after the hotfix/service pack that allows you to change the threshold of activation of the fallback from "a cumulative total of 6 errors" to "6 errors consecutively". This should, hopefully, make the trigger happen much less often.

See the More Information section at the bottom.

Other net references indicate that the IO mode might reset to the original DMA mode on eject of an optical disc after these changes, but that article doesn't say that.

Another approach would be to connect the drive via Firewire.
