How to use ReplayGain codec to update tag and nor convert file

How do I use ReplayGain to update the tag(s) on a Flac file without converting/resampling the audio file itself. In order to achieve this do I need to use it as a Utility Codec from the Encoding drop-down menu of dBpoweramp Music Converter? I can select add ReplayGain under DSP Effects, but it does not appear as an Encoding option (see attached screen image).

An earlier post about this simply says "use the Utility Codec ReplayGain".

have you installed the replaygain utility codec?

You select files to convert then "convert to" the RG codec(instead of flac etc).

I have installed ReplayGain from Codec-Central. As you will see from the JPEG I posted, the only option I see in dBpoweramp Music Converter is 'Encoding' not 'convert to'. Am I using the correct application?

No. That's the Dsp. You haven't installed the RG utility codec. See my link.

it appears that the replay Gain UTILITY codec is not fully installed. See pic. You should see in drop down.

yes. Correct app. Encode to REPLAY GAIN codec as you see in my picture link. But I don't see that option in your drop down options in your pic. Makes me think it is not installed on your setup.

Thanks for your response. You're right, the ReplayGain Utility Codec has not installed correctly, even though the installation file dBpoweramp-Codec-[ReplayGain].exe runs without displaying an error. I have checked the two folders where I expect to find references to 'ReplayGain'.

C:\Program Files\dBpoweramp\DSPs <-- this folder has the following two files
ReplayGain.dll
ReplayGain.ico

C:\Program Files\dBpoweramp\encoder <-- this folder has no reference to 'ReplayGain' after the install .exe file has been run.

I have tried running the installation file ( dBpoweramp-Codec-[ReplayGain].exe ) with 'Run as administrator' and also with AVG Anti-Virus temporarily disabled, but it doesn't work.

Odd. I have had issues with my work network computer installing. After running install, I then type %tmp% into the start/program menu of windows. That takes me to the tmp directory and I see a recent tmp exe file related to dbpa. I move this file to my desktop and execute it from there and it works. This is all required because of my work restrictions on my laptop.

When installing the path it installs to is:

C:\Program Files\dBpoweramp\

?

If so then something on your system is deleting the file after install (the installer would inform if it could not write the files).

PROBLEM SOLVED.

Many thanks for taking the time to help figure out what was going wrong. The solution was to uninstall every reference to dBpoweramp in 'Control Panel-->Programs and Features' on my Windows 10 64-bit machine and reinstall v16.1 of dbpa.

If you're interested in the details behind the problem, here's what I found.

Some remnants of an older version of dBpoweramp (v14) were still on my system, which was running the latest v16.1 of dbpa. It appears that the installation was confused by this and installed the ReplayGain Utility Codec in a 32-bit rather than a 64-bit version. When I looked through my Windows 10 folders I found the following:

C:\Program Files\dBpoweramp\encoder <-- this 64-bit applications folder had no reference to 'ReplayGain' after the install .exe file had been run 'successfully'.

However, I eventually looked through the other (32-bit) applications folder and found that it didn't have a 'dBpoweramp' folder, but it did have an 'Illustrate' folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Illustrate\dBpoweramp\encoder <-- this folder had the following two files:
[ReplayGain].dll
[ReplayGain].ico

So, dBpoweramp had installed the 32-bit version of the Utility Codec instead of the 64-bit version. After I uninstalled all dbpa apps and codecs and re-installed dbpa v16.1, everything worked as expected.

The fact that dbpa did not remove an older 32-bit version of the programme when a newer 64-version was installed may be a feature rather than a bug, because some of the codecs may work only in a 32-bit environment. However, I think it would be helpful if that were made clearer at the time of installation. Perhaps the install .exe could detect the presence of both instances, display a message about the potential for the problem I encountered, and refer the user to some documentation.
