iTunes does not recognize wav tags?

When importing ripped .wav files from dBpoweramp, none of the metadata or album art are recognized by iTunes.

    Win7
    dBpoweramp reference
    iTunes 9.0.3
    ripping .wav with default settings

Also tried MediaMonkey with similar results
The tag info does show up in Windows Explorer

Have tried many different things including tag settings, file naming, etc.
Is there some way to tweak dBpoweramp to improve this or is it just a limitation of iTunes?

iTunes doesn't support tags in wav files.

WAV files in general don't support ID3 tags, as far as I know, it's something that dBpoweramp does. It's a good idea, I think ID3 should be made a standard for tagging across all audio file formats

There are several tag types that can be embedded within WAV files. The most common is INFO LIST, supported by tools like MediaMonkey and MetadataTouch. There are few tools that support ID3 for WAV, such as MusicMatch Jukebox and mp3Tag Pro.
