In Windows Media Player, right-click on the file in the playlist, go to Properties. Click on the "Media Usage Rights" tab, does it say "This file is not protected"?

Sounds like it is a protected WMA file which cannot be converted.

It has to say something like "no rights" or "no media management", anything else means the file is protected and can't be converted.

              Re: can't convert mp3's

Running into an error trying to convert a friend of mines CD to mp3. The files are not protected- I keep getting this error and figure I am missing something simple but it is driving me nuts.

Error convertin gto mp3(LAmeL, ‘E:\Track01.cda’ to ‘MFM Folder\Track01.mp3
Error unable to open File ‘MFM Folder\Track01.mp3’ for writing.[dEncoder::BeginConversion]

Any help is appreciated- can a CDA file be converted?
              Thanks

You are missing a drive letter from the start.
