Is r12 free if i bought r11?

I see that r12 has arrived. I purchased r11, am I required to purchase r12?
If not how do I install it? (do I have to install on top of r11??) If that is the case, then must i keep my r11 install (.exe) ((I still have it, learned a long time ago to hang on to valuable installs...)
