yooo .I wanted to know if i could network to pcs using a wire which had a usb end on both sides and connect one end on each computer. could i share files that way? has anybody tried it? thanks

I've tried in the past. No, I didn't have success... I think you need a router to connect the computers to each other...

You CAN connect computers together with USB, but only for USB cables specifically designed to due so. Just a USB cable with the correct ends will not do it, as it requires a piece of firmware to mediate between the computers to network them in this manner.

For USB cables? No. There is a piece on the USB cable around the size of a pack of gum that allows the USB networking to work.

If I remember correclty USB 2.0 is 480mbps? In my network properties it says 100mbps?? I think I've seen 400mbps ethernet though...I think...I dunno :o

Actually, I'm SURE that USB is faster. Just walk into a Staples or an Office Depot, go under the "Networking" aisle and look at the specifications for the two different cables.

However, IIRC, the cable length limit is shorter for USB than it is for ethernet. Your best, relaible bet for networking two computers is an ethernet cable. Note that if you are not using a switch, hub, or router, you need a special ethernet cable called a "crossover cable" that allows you to directly hook two computer together.
