    I agree with garym.

On a track by track basis, you could have a myriad of styles and influences. A Clapton track like Tulsa Time, is country, or country rock. If this was on a Clapton compilation, I would personally, still tag the album as Rock; Blues, or some combination of Blues and Rock!

With using Style, you can add, whatever, or as many different styles, that make sense to you. As you have seen from the providers metadata, there is often not one obvious answer.

The choices with genre / style, are, is it how you view the artist, album, or even any given song?

I would not say it was Country (if I did I would have GENRE = Country). But I find it to be rather Country influenced (which is why I was considering the latter as STYLE).

I can't imagine how you have so many CDs?! I have about 600 and have been ripping continuously since July last.

So you would not bother with the Country aspect?

I dare say a lot of people own this CD.

I would rather have more STYLE tags than GENREs.

    evasv,

Some of my decision making is influenced by what my own personal CD collection consists of. I think I should be able to minimise the amount of GENREs I have because the content does not stretch as wide as most peoples collection.

    Hi Oggy,

'Symphonic Rock' seems to be recognised to a certain degree and there is also Wiki page for it. I have some other bands like 'Crimson King', 'The Nice', 'Frank Zappa', etc and so I am going to use 'Symphonic Rock' for the STYLE; keeping 'Prog. Rock' as the GENRE.

There is also 'Art Rock', which is, apparently, used for Bowie.

This comes down to preference of course, but I see Style as a subgenre. The wiki link doesn't state any style, so in that case genre and style would be the same thing (Progressive Rock).

I don't have this CD or anything by ELP, but to me they don't feel like Folk but more like your other options + maybe Symphonic Rock or Art Rock.
