Request to Convert Asset UPnP Universal Purchase to Windows Registered Version

    Hello,

I am writing regarding my purchase of Asset UPnP Universal. My order number is:

I have discovered that the Universal version does not provide a Windows registration code and does not unlock the Windows Registered Downloads page. I need to run Asset UPnP on Windows 11 in Desktop Mode, with the tray icon and full configuration interface.

Could you please convert my existing Asset UPnP Universal purchase into the Asset UPnP Windows Registered Version, or otherwise provide the appropriate Windows registration code so I can access the correct installer?

I would be very grateful for your help.

    Kind regards, Ian

Asset Universal does include Windows, it is the first download on the list, download the .exe and run the installer.

      Hello Spoon,

Thank you for your reply. I downloaded the Asset UPnP Universal Windows .exe from my order details page and ran it again. It does install something on Windows, but it does not install the full Windows Desktop Mode version.

      Here is exactly what happens:
      1. I right‑click the .exe → Properties → “Unblock” was present, and I ticked it.
      2. I ran the installer as Administrator.
      3. No Windows installer window appears — no licence agreement, no install options, no “Run Asset at Logon”, no “Run as Service”, no destination folder, no completion message.
      4. Instead, I get only an Asset UPnP Configuration window.
      5. A tray icon does appear, but it is the minimal Universal tray icon, not the full Windows tray icon.
      6. Asset UPnP does appear in Services.msc, but it is the Universal service build.
      7. Asset UPnP appears in Installed Apps.
      8. The installer creates the folder:
      C:\Program Files\Asset

      (not the usual C:\Program Files\Illustrate\AssetUPnP)

      Inside that folder are:

      Folders:
      • AssetImages
      • decoder
      • encoder
      • ffmpeg
      • Versions

      Files:
      • AssetConfig.exe
      • AssetReg.bin
      • AssetRemoveStartItems.exe
      • Asset-uPNP.exe
      • Asset-UPnPService.exe
      • Asset-UPnPService (configuration settings)
      • Asset-UPnPService.txt
      • uMediaLibrary.exe
      • uMediaLibrary-dumpdb.exe
      • uMediaLibrary-ReadTags.exe

This appears to be a hybrid NAS/service-mode build rather than the full Windows Desktop Mode version. The full Windows UI executables (AssetUPnPTray.exe, AssetUPnPConfig.exe) are not present.

Could you please convert my Asset UPnP Universal purchase to the Windows Registered Version, or provide the correct Windows registration code so I can access the proper Windows installer?

      Thank you, Ian

        >AssetUPnPTray.exe, AssetUPnPConfig.exe

They do not exist in any of our current builds.

        >C:\Program Files\Asset

That is correct, the 64 bit version installs to that folder, the C:\Program Files x86\Illustrate\AssetUPnP was for older discountinued 32 bit.

Asset is running, you can access from the tray, click it and it opens a web browser to configure it.

AssetUPnP is a UPnP server, you need a control point to browse it and and a UPnP player to play with, you have those?

          Hello Spoon

You are right. There is now an Asset that I can access from the Tray.

The instructions for setting it up are not very detailed and I need lots more help. My previous system was a MinimServer and I am getting confused by the differences. in particular, I am running into problems with the pictures displayed - e.g. I can locate an album which displays the JPG that is inside its folder but when I select it, it opens that folder and lists the correct tracks, but displays a JPG from somewhere out in the Internet that refers to an album with the same pieces - but not this one ! I also can't see my M3U8 Playlists. I guess this is not the place to have this sort of discussion, but could you point me in the right direction.

          Thanks, Ian

            Hello again Spoon

I do have an Android Tablet providing the Control Point and a Nain Uniti Atom player that work with it.

However, I am assured that :

I am not running Asset in Service Mode.
I am not running the full Windows Registered version
I am running the Universal / Hybrid build, which does not include:
            • Clear Artwork Cache
            • Artwork priority settings
            • Embedded artwork controls
            • Folder artwork controls
            • Classical browsing controls
            • Full Browse Tree editor
            • Full Windows tray icon
            • Full Windows configuration panel

and that this is why I cannnot get it to operate as I was hoping.

The Windows Tray icon is not a green house but a quaver with green arcs.
I need the UPnP license to be converted to the Windows Registered Version.
            Can you Please Help.

            Thanks, Ian

All versions have the same functionality, there is no Windows Registered Version which you do not have..

"I am running into problems with the pictures displayed - e.g. I can locate an album which displays the JPG that is inside its folder but when I select it, it opens that folder and lists the correct tracks, but displays a JPG from somewhere out in the Internet"

Asset prefers the art embedded in the actual files, to external folder.jpg, it does not search the internet, that art is in the files.

              >Clear Artwork Cache
              >Artwork priority settings
              >Embedded artwork controls
              >Folder artwork controls

We have never had such optons

              >Classical browsing controls

              Explain please

              >Full Browse Tree editor
              >Full Windows configuration panel

Run Asset Configuration >> Edit the browse tree is on the left of the Window.

              >Full Windows tray icon

The tray icon was only added in the last release, not sure how it is not full.

We have never had a green house tray icon. You must be confusing Asset with a different UPnP server.

                Hello Spoon,

                Thank you for the clarification.

Here is what I mean by “classical browsing controls”:

I browse my library primarily by Composer → Work. My library is organised in a strict folder structure, and each album folder contains a folder.jpg.

The issue I am seeing is:
                • When I browse via Album, Asset shows artwork from a different album (e.g., Maazel/Cleveland Tchaikovsky 6) instead of the correct folder.jpg.
                • When I browse via Folders, the correct folder.jpg appears at the folder level, but when I enter the album, the artwork switches to the wrong embedded artwork from another disc.
                • This happens only with classical albums where multiple recordings share the same composer and work names. Incidently, I don't actually possess the Maazel vesion in my own library.

                So the problem is:

Asset is prioritising embedded artwork from other albums over the folder.jpg in the actual album folder.

MinimServer always uses the folder.jpg in the album folder, so this behaviour is new to me.

Could you please advise how to make Asset use the folder.jpg in the album’s folder when browsing classical albums?

                Thank you, Ian

You would have to update the ID Tags, remove or update the artwork contained within.

It is correct that the art attached to audio tracks is prioritized over folder.jpg, there are many people with multiple albums in the same folder, such as mp3 files. The artwork in the file should never be wrong, it is attached to the actual file, if it is wrong then it needs updating, use a Tag editor to correct.
