Windows Media Player genre, year info verses dbPowerAmp

I have many albums already loaded into Windows Media Player as WAV files. When I installed dbPowerAmp and looked at the file details in Windows Explorer I see that "release year" is not there at all and "genre" is many times completely different from what appears in WMP. Why is this, and how can I synch the two?

It is possible that WMP keeps these extra tags internally and not in the file (for wave you have a limited tag set)
