Is it possible to rip to individual FLAC files and re-create original CD later?

    Hi,
I would like to rip my CD collection to individual FLAC files and to be able to re-create original CDs if needed.
Is that possible with dbPowerAmp or any other software?

Additionally, I would like as many as possible of the following:
    1. Rip and encode in mp3 format at the same time as in FLAC, certain albums.
    2. Calculate reply gain (album gain) and write it in mp3 tags
    3. Calculate reply gain (album gain) and write it in FLAC tags
    4. Use unicode characters (croatian) in naming tracs, albums etc.
    5. Be able to convert FLAC files into mp3 without re-ripping later, if I haven't encoded in mp3 initially.
    6. Downolad album art in folder with encoded files
    7. Use separate folder structure for FLAC and mp3 files.

I plan to use Logitech squeezebox family of products at home, and they all support FLAC. mp3 will be used occasionally, where FLAC is not supported e.g. for portable mp3 players, although I expect situation to change there as well, as memory is getting cheaper and FLAC still has no quality loss compared to mp3.

Any directions and advices how to achieve what I planned are most appriciated.

Use the multi-encoder codec to encode to 2 codecs at the same time.

      1. Use Multi-Encoder, as Spoon stated.
      2. Use the [ReplayGain] utility codec after ripping is done if you are using the MultiEncoder codec, otherwise us the ReplayGain DSP effect if you are ripping to either mp3 or FLAC.
      3. See above.
      4. Go into dBpoweramp configuration and tell it to use Unicode-16 for mp3 tags instead of ANSI, not sure which one is default.
      5. Use the Batch Converter to convert multiple folders at once.
      6. This can't be done with dMC, unfortunately.
      7. Can be done, either with ripper profiles (Reference-only) or if you are using the Multi-Encoder, you just point the ripper at the root directory then give each codec the path.

Thanks guys for your prompt response and answers to my additional questions.
But my main concern is can I re-create original CD from individual flac files and how.
Can dbPowerAmp do it an will it take into account writing offset?
        Regards,
        Nik

dBpoweramp CD Writer does not account for writing offsets.

            O.K.
If it will not be bit-perfect then, but I might sacrifice that.
If I rip the whole CD in individual FLAC files, how will I re-create the original CD later if it gets damaged?
I plan to rip new CDs as soon as they are bought and then use them in car or lend to friends and they will inevitably get damaged eventually.
Do I have to store track numbers in tags or how else would I know the order of tracks?
What happens with gaps when ripping? Are they appended to the end of track or ignored?

The best way to recreate the original CD is to use CUE sheets, which dMC doesn't currently support.
You can put the track number at the beginning of the filename, as I do, and then you don't have to worry about it.
Gaps are appended to the end of the previous track, I believe.

I see on the forum that there are some plans to implement cue sheets generation. Actually that it's under development.
Any hint when it could be delivered?
I want my collection ripping to be a one off experience.
I'm terrified of thought having to go through it later again.
BTW, I'm currently evaluating R13 and I'm pleased with user friendliness compared to EAC, but on the other hand a bit disappointed with lack of some features. That's life, I guess.
I ripped two CDs (several times )so far, both in FLAC and mp3. Can you tell me is it possible to store ripping log in folder with FLAC files?
I don't see any being generated at the moment.
If I decide to go with dbPowerAmp, I would like to know which CDs have been ripped and verified by AccurateRip, and which ones require re-ripping later.
                Regards,
                Nik

Yes, as long as you are ripping in secure mode, you can have it save a log to the rip directory. Note you need the PowerPack or Reference version of dMC to do this.

At least in the FLAC files, there is written a tag called AccurateRipResult, which gives that information whether or not the log file exists. In my setup, I have a script which scans all FLAC files in a folder for that tag and puts a two-figure code indicating accurateness in the folder name. Alternatively you might use such a thing to write an AccurateRipResult.txt in each folder (or in each folder with accurate rips, etc.)

Also, people are building retro-check software (and maybe this will be more convenient with AccurateRip2?)
