    Disappointment with R13 :(

I purchased dbPowerAmp Reference R12.4 about a month ago.

I just visited the site and saw R13 so I upgraded. So far a few disappointments:

    1. Poor upgrade policy. I bought it about a month ago and have to pay again. There should be a grace period for free upgrade for customers who bought R12.4 within 90-day.

    2. Poor uprgade process. At the end after I paid, it presented me with a link for download and it does not work. It only worked after waiting 5-10 mins when I got a notification email that the purchase was complete. I think it should ask me to check my email for the download link instead of downloading R13 on the payment completion screen. Just very unprofessional IMO.

    3. The upgrade does not upgrade the AMG usage period. I expect it to add another 365 days, but no, it extended nothing. This makes the upgrade expensive.

    4. Finally, R13 is broken. When I ripped to FLAC, the encoding task is running nearly at idle even when it was set to normal. The encoding process is so slow that it is completely unuseable. Now I had to downgrade to R12.4 for fast ripping speed.

So I paid for the upgrade and got a broken program.

PS - FLAC writing was very poor prior to 1.2.1 when wireless LAN is used for file output. I saw it writing and rewriting the output file multiple times (poor programming). But I'm glad this was fixed in 1.2.1.

R13 costs $36, where as R12 costs $28, the two are not equal in relation to cost or programs included.

The on screen link and email are identical, so it was a internet connection quirk which stopped the download in the first instance.

Our contract with AMG is 1 rolling year in advanced, so we cannot offer 2 years access...

    >4. Finally, R13 is broken.

Consider you have a setting, set which is inhibiting the ripping (either set it to idle encoding priority), or using the DSP effect 'CPU throttle', or put another way there are 1000's of people ripping right now with R13 at 100% CPU.

But it should re-start the 365 days, if it does not, then it really should.

Upgrades do not include AMG, for the most part we were seeing people buy R13 Power Pack, then a few weeks later (after they had tried it and tested) they upgraded to Reference, we exclude the AMG cost from the upgrade as these people would pay twice for it.

Sorry if this is hi-jacking but didn't think I needed to start a new thread.

I want to upgrade to R13 (reference) using paypal but you have it set to credit card payments only. I have paypal set up to take money from my bank account but it won't let me use an "eCheque".

If I can't upgrade via paypal then I guess I'll be stuck with 12.4 for ever.

We do not accept eCheques because they are just like cheques, they take time to clear (4-5 days), which I do not think is a good online experiance. If you were to add $13 to your Paypal account (cleared), then you could pay direct from paypal.

                Re: Disappointment with R13 :(

I will echo Kuro's first concern. Anyone buying Reference 12 shouldn't have to pay extra for an upgrade if upgradation is done in the close vicinity of buying the older version. But, the upgradation cost is not too huge, I'll admit that at the least.

When you come out with minor upgrades in future, say, 13.1, 13.2...and so on, are you gonna ask your customers to pay up again? If that is the case, one can then just wait for a couple of years before upgrading only from one major version to another. It would help if you could clarify your stand on this issue. Thanks.

                  Re: Disappointment with R13 :(

As he said above, the upgrade cost from 12 to 14 is approximately the cost difference between the 2, so there is little to no additional cost in upgrading to 13 from 12, the buying 13 straight out.

Also, as is clearly stated, minor upgrades such as 13.1 are free.

Also, r13 includes the Batch Ripper and CD Writer.
