    OSMC NOT on top

Yesterday I installed dAP and was impressed. I especially like the OSMC but it doesn't stay on top (despite the help saying it does). It behaves just like any other window in the Z-Order but doesn't appear on the taskbar so it's hard to find when it does "disappear". This morning I installed v3 Beta 6 to see if it improved matters but it hasn't.

I'm using XP SP2 and the default skin.

      Re: OSMC NOT on top

I checked out the other threads before posting but they all seem to refer to IE etc. My problem is that the window isn't a TOPMOST window, i.e. it is only on top when it has focus. In fact the pop out bit with the current track information is always hidden behind the taskbar.

I want to place OSMC on my taskbar but as soon as it loses focus the window is inaccessible behind the taskbar. Have I misunderstood, is it not supposed to always be on top of other windows?

You're correct in your understanding that the mini player OSMC is supposed to be Top Most and always showing until you deactivate it.
I'm assuming this is happening with the Default player skin? Did you try the clicking on an unused space on the taskbar trick and then reopening the Mini? I think according to a poll taken during the other threads, that you may be the first one having this problem with XP.

          Re: OSMC NOT on top

I am using the default skin. I believe my problem is different because I'm not using IE. I use Opera for browsing and my problem is that OSMC is never ON TOP, it's just another window in the Z-Order.

Unfortunately until this is fixed or I can find a workaround I've had to stop using dAP.

I'm currently trying Media Player (spit!) which does stay on top of the taskbar.

Just wondering,...does dAP not show up at all on your taskbar? The Onscreen mini never shows up as a window in the taskbar. Only the main player (dAP) does that. And only if you set it up when you installed it. There is a setting in the configuration install options to Never Show In Taskbar. You might check to make sure its not checkmarked. Start/dBpowerAMP/Configuration/Install Options.

I have Control From System Tray checked, Hide When Minimized checked and Never In Taskbar unchecked.

I did try a few different settings but the window never becomes TopMost :-(

I'll keep checking back every so often in case someone finds a fix.

                Re: OSMC NOT on top

Before you throw in the towel on this impressive player, why don't you try downloading a skin and see if the problem with the mini displaying Top Most still persists? There are many good looking skins available to suit one's taste.
                Here's a link.

The Skin Gallery of images showing what each looks like is currently down. But you can download any skin from the authoring threads listed.
You can see a picture of my latest skin in this thread: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthre...5950#post35950

Let us know if this helps.

                  Re: OSMC NOT on top

I hate Media Player so I'll keep trying. It has managed to prevent the volume controls on my laptop working. As a result I had to reboot so I decided to try dAP in Windows 2000 and a reference install of XP that I have on this laptop. In both these dAP OSMC was never a TOPMOST window :-( I'm guessing there's something odd with my laptop.

I tried a skin as you suggested but it didn't help :-(

My best guess then would be to suspect your Opera browser. Anybody else using this browser?

                      Re: OSMC NOT on top

I'm using Opera for a long while now... a couple of version have passed thru my system, and it is set as the default browser...
thru this time I have made skins, donwloaded new skins etc, but no similar problems arose...
on the other hand I have noticed that some other programs witch have advanced (custom made) window drawing can sometimes affect the z-order ("layers" of the windows) witch results that sometimes my osc is not on top... most often this happens with total comander, and sometimes some office products such as Word... but usually I fix this with just turning on - off the osc...
