    Simple question (i think)

Not sure where I should post this:

I just bought a Philips 077/17 mp3 player and installed the Sveta Portable audio file, HDD060 (driver I believe), and SPA Removeable file (my mp3 player shows up as a drive). I'm a total idiot when it comes to this technical stuff, so excuse my questions and long explanations!

Everything worked fine....I added a few mp3 files and they showed up on my player's drive (and even played off that drive and on my computers speakers so i assume it transferred correctly). When I went to the bottom of the screen to "safely remove hardware" option it came up with a heirarchy of " usb mass storage device", "philips mass storage device", and "generic drive (mine happens to be J:/)" so I assumed if i chose the first option "usb mass storage device" that i would close all of them. When i did this and disconnected the usb cable from my player it said that there was a problem and to reconnect my player to the computer. I tried to disconnect all three of them (separately) and still got the error on my mp3 player.

Isn't this the way to disconnect after transferring files to an mp3 player? Has anyone else had this problem? Now no matter what I do i get the error, i can't figure out how to disconnect without the error!

    thanks for any help!

I have had this error with other usb devices, like my camera. The thing is it's a 2 or 3 step procedure. You select the first thing to disconnect, then it offers somethign again, you select it and finally it tells you it is now safe to disconnect.

wow that was a fast response, thanks!

I thought I'd be given the option again to close out the other two before I disconnected, but once I click on one of them to "stop" then the "safely remove hardware" icon disappears, so I don't get a chance to stop the other two! I even went to My Computer and right-clicked on the drive that it assigned to my player and clicked "eject" and then tried a different option on the safely remove hardware menu........that didn't work either. I feel like an idiot, i've been on this for literally hours!

Ok, just shut down the pc, remove the device, and then boot it up again.

Tried that a handful of times too.........I still get the horrific "Problem! Please connect to computer" screen on my player. I'm going to let the batteries run down for the night and charge it back up tomorrow to see if that does anything (don't think it will but that's my last step before just bring the piece of crap back to the store!).

Oh, so it's the player that has a problem with that. I thought it was the PC. Sorry. That I don't know.

But... what if you power down the player while it's connected to the computer, click on disconnect the usb device on the pc, and then physically take it out?

The HDD060 driver has not been tried with a HDD077, but it has been used without problems for HDD070.

Try starting the software that came with the player (DMM) see if it can repair the database.

                Re: Simple question (i think)

You guys are great, thanks for trying! I returned it yesterday and am considering buying the Creative Zen touch with 20 gb....not much more money for 18 more gig than my previous Philips player (though I really don't want that much space now I may want it later!). I've seen some good reviews on Creative's players (I'm a little worried about how much cheaper they are for so much gig...I found 2 online sites that are selling them for about $220, I spent $200 for my little 2 gigger!), but many people complaining about the touch pad. Does anyone know of a good cheap mp3 player with 10 gig or have any comments about the 20gb Creative Touch?

Creative's mp3 players are the best out there for the money. Now their speakers on the other hand, well, to be blunt, they mostly suck. Anything Creative sells for under 80 bucks, don't buy it. Just a little tidbit of advice for ya!
