I looked thru the whole page and its links, couldn't find anything regarding what i need.
I don't have the unreal editor, if i did, all my problems would be gone

Christina's link gives you a link to a program that can decode .uax files. Did you try it yet?

Re: need codec for .uax to (.wav, .mp3, etc.)

If you're still interested., from http://unreal.epicgames.com/Music.htm

How can I play Unreal music outside of Unreal?
Try going into UnrealED, go to the texture browser, select "Music", and load the song you want (.UMX file).. then press the Export button. You will be able to export the file selected as an Impulse Tracker (.IT) file. The .IT file can be then played in WinAMP or other Windows MOD players (available at Maz' Sound Tools).

I'm trying to use Impulse Tracker files with Unreal, but they won't play. Why?
The Galaxy audio engine within Unreal does not support certain extended features of Impulse Tracker, such as New Note Actions (when you use 'instruments' instead of 'samples' in IT, for instance). However, it DOES support ping pong looping, 16 bit files, up to 32 channels (64, if you don't want sound fx playing ), and panning envelopes. No volume envelopes, though.
                and from http://unreal.epicgames.com/Packages.htm

                ...
                ...
All Unreal package files are stored in the same binary file format, but they use different extensions to identify their type:

.utx files are packages of textures.
.uax files are packages of audio (sound effects).
.umx files are packages of music.
.unr files contain one game level.
.u files are packages containing UnrealScript classes and objects (like textures, sounds, and meshes) they contain.
                ..
                ...
                ..
All Unreal package files (.utx, .uax, .umx, .unr, and .u) use the exact same file format, and are processed in exactly the same way by the engine. The only reason we define different extensions is for convenience, and to interoperate with Windows cleanly. For example, .unr files are known to contain levels, so we associate the Unreal icon with them, and set them up so right-clicking on an .unr file in Windows launches Unreal. And, UnrealEd knows that .utx files contain textures. The meanings of these file extensions are purely superficial. They all use the same file format.

Re: need codec for .uax to (.wav, .mp3, etc.)

                  Wow, talk about a journey.

I am trying to make a custom cityintro.unr for my clan. I want the intro voice so I can write down the text of what the woman says, and write my own version of it, then take parts of the clan's favorite maps, and make our own cityintro from them.

I came here looking for info on saving a uax file to a wav file. Nothing useful. Soooo, I opened the editor because I still hadn't found the actual file (thought it was a music file but it wasn't in there, so I assumed it was a sound file). Well, lo and behold, if you click the icon in the editor that looks like a speaker, you get the sound files. Browse to the one named OpeningVO, and play it. Yes, there it is, the woman talking about the tournament.

That much was out of the way. Now what to do with it? I haven't seen an easy way to get that puppy to a wav file yet. Oh bother. What to do, what to do.

On a lark, I clicked to see what file extension it would export to.... just to see, ya know?

GUESS WHAT? YOU CAN EXPORT THE SOUND TO A .WAV FILE.

                  Duh. Who'd a thunk it?

                  Way easy!!!

                  Hope this helps!!!!

                  Your's truly,

                      OMIGOD!

Guys, ANY game that bundles sound/music in UAX format comes with the Unreal Editor. Just open the UAX archive and extract DIRECTLY from the archive to your harddrive. Hello, why is this even a thread when the solution is on your game CD?
