LCD screens are not just flat, they are very thin pieces of equipment maybe just a couple of inches thick, they take up very little space on the desk, no picture tube sticking out in the back AND the screen surface is squishy :smile2:

About the only thing you could mistake an LCD screen with may be a plasma screen, but I somehow doubt such would be the case here :D

Also, LCD screens are normally an inch or two thick. CRTs can top a foot in depth. Another way is LCD panels normally have a "power brick" type plug whereas CRTs just take a standard computer-type power plug. Also, if you play around inside an LCD, you probably won't die. Don't do that to the inside of a CRT. You will either die or get the shock of your life.

And there are flat-screen CRTs where the front of the picture tube is flattened. Also, CRTs normally have a Degauss option, whereas LCDs do not.

            Re: Won't show . . . . .

Despite all the above, and regardless of the nativeness of resolution, Jerry can't read the track info. on his screen at 1024 by 768 resolution. While the issue of this resolution not being native for the monitor, on top of the issue of the monitor (possibly) being LCD, may be responsible for this problem, we have already heard a complaint that the same information is not very legible on an LCD display at 1280 resolution.

It may be that tinkering with color settings may take care of the problem but if Jerry is satisfied with his display otherwise I don't see the point of recommending he change those. Trying some other skins which provide higher contrast may be preferable. Perhaps the dAP N-Log, Digital Blade, WindAPs, GoldenAMP, or the Golden Wonder 3 skins might be good alternatives, as would the WinAmp 5 skin (all at or about the same size as the default skin). There are a variety of other skins which have larger size in addition to better contrast which Jerry could also consider. These would include the Pioneer skin and the Black Beauty skin.

There is a possibility that either enabling or disabling large fonts might make a difference (although I believe we've covered that option previously and it would not address the visualization issue).

            Best wishes,
            Bill Mikkelsen

In that case I have a CRT. I tried a skin and I was able to see the mp3 ID.

OK! What this ought to mean is that your display does not give you an adequate view of the track information and visualizations from the default skin. Since this same information can be shown on other displays at your resolution (I have a 15" CRT display at 1024 by 768 and a similar video card), my guess remains, in theory, that changes to your video settings might remedy the problem with the default skin. I also note, however, that the design of the default skin visualization and video windows do not promote really high levels of contrast between display and background information-the contrast is more artfully subtle. But if you are otherwise satisfied with your display, use other skins that work better for you.

If you want to persist in trying to get the default skin to work, you might want to check to see if your display has large fonts (120 dpi) or regular fonts (96 dpi) enabled (Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced). You may find that going one way or the other may make a difference (I use 96 dpi).

Now how are you getting along with the Freedb connection problem? Have you tried the strategies that Christina suggested in her last post on that topic?

                Best wishes,
                Bill Mikkelsen

I am able to get track info from FreeDB now. Also, I would rather use the default skin.

I am able to get DAP to show the tag info now (default skin), but I have to use 256 colors.

Try updating your graphic card drivers.

Have you updated your video card drivers? Try to troubleshoot, because it's not normal behaviour.

I'm surprised you can view normally other stuff though.

Each time I try to get the upgrades I get an error.

Did you uninstall your old drivers before you installed the newest ones?
If you don't, that normally causes errors.

You mean you haven't found a good source of drivers to download or you actually cannot download those files?
