    Re: Skin Review: Curt: StudioPro

    Okay.
    The first folder contains RX"=dword:fffffffc
The Skin 8 folder contains "RX"=dword:ffffffde
    "RY"=dword:ffffffb0

I don't know what the RX or RY values are referring to, or if they are a derivative of the X and Y's. But in all other entries, the values are a bunch of 000000's with a numerical value at the end. The 'ffffff's are similar to the entries others are finding.

Thanks for the files. I will get busy again.

      Re: Skin Review: Curt: StudioPro

      Howdy,

I'd not installed this skin before, as I've sort of been absent from dap for a while, but after getting an email from Razgo about it, I installed it. (downloaded a little while ago, so probably not the same version that you've been working on to fix this, but i was curious to see how the original skin would react before I try any later incarnations )

Ok first up what I got:

      System Tray ONLY.

I check registry and I only have:

      - StudioPro
      -- TrayControl
      ---- Skin1

NOW there could be an easy reason for this. The last skin I used, had the onscreen remote active, and the main IsAmpWindow minimized. So DAP I assume would have also minimized the IsAmpWindow for the next skin that's selected/loaded.

So it seems that the last used skin can effect how the next selected skin is displayed... This could be why you see some settings for your skin appear in the default dap registry settings. These should be reset when you select a different skin.

So I RMB click on the system tray icon (NOT on tray skin), Bingo I now have MainAmp. Checking registry now, shows this:

      - StudioPro
      -- Amp
      ---- MainAmp
      -- TrayControl
      ---- Skin1

When I click on the Studio button, I get this in the registry

      - StudioPro
      -- Amp
      ----
      ----
      ---- MainAmp
      ---- Skin1
      ---- Skin4
      ---- Skin5
      ---- Skin6
      ---- Skin7
      ---- Track Info
      ---- VU Mask
      -- TrayControl
      ---- Skin1

      Note there's 2 blank entries?

Click on every button i can find, I also get

      -- UserDefined #1
      ---- Skin1
      ---- Skin2

Opening the skin in Skin Designer I can't see any specific things for the IsAmpWindow that would cause it to go off screen.

Some previous skin testing I did (with previous version of skin designer) sometimes the skin positions in the skin designer may cause offsets, but all your skins are set top/left in the skin designer work space, so it can't be relevant to that.

BUT what maybe happening is the Z-Order ?.. I see you have IsAmpWindow set to 8. Maybe DAP is having trouble with that?..

Oh I just checked my Billet Alloy skin and that has IsAmpWindow at Z-Order 9.. and no-ones reported an offscreen issue with that, so maybe that's not the cause..

Maybe try it with the Help skin as a UserDefined skin, so it's set TOP Left in the skin designer work space aswell. It's not linked to IsAmpWindow so it shouldn't cause too much grief to move it.

It maybe that (on my desktop resolution of 1024 x 768) I get scroll bars in order to see all of the Help Skin?.. Maybe the scroll bars are introducing a negative X, Y Offset when the designer packs the skin ?

The're the only things I can think of in the 10minutes I've been looking at it.

If none of that helps solve it, then I'll check each object for each skin in the designer to see if I spot anything else.

I did have a massive issue with Metalastic and DAP, where I used too many skins / objects causing some sort of o/load in DAP, which was corrected in colaberation with Spoon releasing a new version of DAP, but your skin only has 14 scroll screens of objects, where as Metalistic has 21, so it can't be an object overload issue.

      Hope that helps

        Re: Skin Review: Curt: StudioPro

        Narler,
You've had the most experience with Skin Designer quirks. Thanks for taking a look at the situation.
In every instance of trying to repack this thing (for the last few days) I've always had the Mini off and the Studio expanded. And that's how it always loaded.

Those first two unnamed (blank) folders are a result of trying to name those skins after the whole skin was completed. Skin Designer wouldn't accept it.

I kind of suspect the black backdrop since it is the largest item. (Who knows?)

I've just completed a total rebuild from scratch, and have uploaded it to Spoons skin site. I did move the help page to UserDefined #2 as you suggested. It still worked fine.
I tried the same with the black backdrop (formerly skin #2 in new edition) adding it as UserDefined #3 (Z-Order 12, then 10, 9). It did not work...and was deleted. Its suppose to display behind dAP. Readded it back in AMP window. Was listed in Skin Designer as Skin 2, registry sees it as skin 12, and still as UserDefined 3. (All three have the "fffffff's" going on).

The mini "Y" also has some "fffffff's on both skins.

I'm hopeful that todays rebuild is working...but not holding my breath.

Any newbies want to give it a try???

        Thanks.
        Craze

PS. If you figure it out I'm sure others would like to hear about it. Spoon is due back in a few days. Also,...Thanks Razgo and Xoas for all of your help. Just trying to get it right and determine the cause.

          Just an update.

I downloaded the skin today on a friends computer (Win 98; dAP r2). The problem still exists. The main amp would not display and the right mouse click suggested by Narler on the Tray icon failed to activate the Amp window. This was a first time install on that pc.

(Spoon hinted that perhaps the version of dAP may be causing this issue. I have been using r3 beta5 throughout the build and rebuilding).

This is beyond me. Waiting on Da Man.

I am wondering if only Windows 98 is affected? it could be linked to that other problem people were having in Windows 98.

so the question is has anyone with NT/2000/XP had this problem?

                  Re: Skin Review: Curt: StudioPro

Yes, Craze is correct-I am using XP SP1 home edition. And I have not had the other skin problem that was reported for Windows 98 (and in Windows 2000 in at least 1 case) on my XP machine. I did used to encounter this problem with the Little Black Number skin on my Windows 95 machine, and I have also encountered this problem on my XP machine with the Beyond skin, as well as with DualPro and Studio Pro. It is only with the latter two cases that this problem (skin not showing up) was present right after the installation. In the other cases it appears that the problem would appear after system slowdowns or crashes while the skin was playing in dAP.
(Another difference is that the problem reported with Windows 98 affected all skins and was only limited to the tray control and then only in certain circumstances; in this case the problem, as I am experiencing does NOT affect the tray control but affects the main skins). My uneducated guess would be that if there is any relationship with the Windows 98 bug it would have to be related to the skin being designed and uploaded from a Windows 98 machine.

Something I do wonder is whether this problem may somehow be related to the "missing volume control fix" which has been much discussed. On the other hand, if this was the case I would expect more skins to have this problem.

Anyway, that's my perspective. Hope this sorts out soon.
                  Best wishes and good luck.

                    No AMP!!! Only the Tray!

Spoon, did you have any problem with it?

Razgo, did you ever uninstall and/or delete the skin from your registry?

                        Re: Skin Review: Curt: StudioPro

I've noticed that the Text Document packaged with the skin install cannot be found in the StudioPro folder from Explorer. Wondering if the problem is somehow tied to the dAPSkinInstall process?

Xoas brings up an important point. I lost my volume control panel window when working on my first skin 10-20-2002. I was working in the Skin Designer and creating the Install when this happened. (My HD has been reformatted since then, 8-03-2003). http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=1124
There were no answers then either.

I have repackaged the skin once again and have included directions in the Text Document for fixing the problem as posted earlier in this thread. (#7)

Should be even more fun when someone skips over reading the text document during the install then can't find it in the folder where it belongs.

Also wondering, if the old Skin site is just out there unattended these days if the problem lies there? None of the updates have been sent to Razgo's yet.

yes i did. well i installed uninstalled the skin but did not touch the registry.

Should be even more fun when someone skips over reading the text document during the install then can't find it in the folder where it belongs.
as far as i know skin designer has never put the readme file in the same folder as the install. by default it goes to a windows temp file. but if you have configured it so the readme file goes into a certain directory? then mine is missing.

Also wondering, if the old Skin site is just out there unattended these days if the problem lies there? None of the updates have been sent to Razgo's yet.
it is just a ghost shell :p there now.

intersting theory though to suggest the download from that site could be corrupting things.

but in another post in this thread my skintest attachment was corrupted apperantly also. hmmmmm..... can you upload it to my new skin site here: http://www.sensory-fusion.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71
just click edit and manage attaachments to upload the new updated file. remove the old one first.

                            Razgo,
I doubt if you will ever have a problem with the skin not appearing on your pc. X & Y are still active from the original.

"The Studio" shows the txt doc in its folder and I think that the Golden Wonder did too. But I currently have only a few skins installed.

I'll send you a file when I return to my pc later in the day.
