flac to alac conversion very slow

I've used the dBpoweramp music converter several times without a problem. But I am trying to convert a Batch from FLAC to ALAC,
it's been running for 22hrs now and only 4% complete, running at 1.1x encoding speed... any idea what the problem might be?

Where are the files held? network share?

Do you have security software?

they are held on an external hard drive, I am using AVG security software... I'll try shutting it down during the conversion.
