As I am an Apple household, I rip to ALAC. I have a question relating to iTunes handling of Replaygain.
With ReplayGain tags you can tick both Track 'AND' Album. But with iTunes Normalisation it is either Track 'OR' Album.
Why the difference? What is the general consensus?...

HDCD not ripping at higher resolution.
I am trying to rip Dixie Chicks - Home
CD Ripper is not recognising the disc as HDCD. The cover art has the HDCD logo. Also online databases list the disc as HDCD.
Is there a way to see that the disc is actually a HDCD, with the TOC HDCD flag missing? Or is the disc just a regular... -
Metadata fields differ between apps.
Hi all,
I am currently ripping all of my CDs to ALAC. I am getting all of my metadata from Discogs. I have settled on the bare minimum fields. eg. Artist, Album Artist, Disc No., Track No., Year, and Genre. Though I have added Track ISRC, Catalog No., and UPC.
I have found... -

Copy lyrics from iTunes linrary
Hi,
I ripped all my CD library in ALAC (Apple lossless) format. At the same time I have the same tracks on my Mac in MP3 format (when I purchase CDs from Amazon, they offer MP3 version immediately for download), and all of them have manually added lyrics. Now I consider replacing MP3 files... -

Hello,
I just ripped many Audio CDs with dBpoweramp CD Ripper and my customer is reviewing his ALAC files using a Mark Levinson and seeing bitrates of 944 kbps and 906 kbps. Isn't the default for ALAC 1,411 kbps? If so, why weren't the audio tracks ripped at the higher rate? See the 2... -
FLAC or ALAC, which one to choose
Hello everyone
This is my first time posting here. As non-technical personnel, I have a question.
I am going to use dBpoweramp CD Ripper to digitalize my music CDs to audio. It is said that FLAC and ALAC with lossless compression provide the best sound effects. But I don’t know which... -
FLAC or ALAC or both?
Dear All,
I am currently planning to re-rip my full library to have them ideally in accurate rip (about 1,200 albums). I am a mac User, but I am using next to iTunes (for iphone) also Roon and Sonos in my house. So my question is, should I go for ALAC or Flac or both? Apart from the fact,... -
Converting Audio 24bit Flacs to ALAC
Hey guys since the last update I've been getting tons of issues when converting FLAC files to ALAC. The batch converter and the file converter. I have to run the program several times to get the files to convert.
Is there something I'm missing? -
FLAC/ALAC ID-Tag corruption on edit/conversion
I've encountered a strange issue where ID-Tags get corrupted in ALAC files on any edit/conversion operation and bloew is a test case that illustrates it:
- fresh install dMC-R17.1-Ref-Trial with all the default settings
- download ALAC sample file, e.g. http://www.hyperion-records.co.uk... -
FLAC files on NAS to iTunes / iPhone
Currently I store all my music on a NAS (approximately 900 Albums / 13,000 Songs) and stream my music on my home network using Minimserver music server software and a Linn DS player.
All of my music was ripped from CD to FLAC with minimal/no compression using dBpoweramp; except for the...Last edited by sbearden1; October 01, 2017, 06:20 PM. -

Which ripping formats support storing of CD TOC in the metadata?
I know WMA does, but is this the only format?
What I'd like is to use a Lossless codec (I've recently settled on Apple Lossless) which can store the original CD TOC fore future reference/reuse?

ALAC 16bit vs. 24bit – Reversed waveform polarity
I came across this problem while converting hi-res *.wav tracks into 24/48 ALAC files. This is what I found: encoding an audio file into ALAC 24bit results in a reversed waveform polarity, which comes back to normal once converted back to *.wav, *.flac or even ALAC 16bit. I have been experimenting with... -
Replay Gain settings/iTunes Normalization
I've searched through the forum's and help guides but I didn't really find an answer to my ReplayGain (not RP apply) setting questions. I do CD ripping for clients and I've started to think it would be a good idea to include RG tags just in case their media player of choice can read and use them. I...
