I have just paid and upgraded my CD ripper package and it will not install. I have a message that says "Cannot connect to dBpowermp.com" and the installation will not complete. Any sensible suggestions please?

Install by downloaded the registered version from here:
Then run the install. -
What is not working exactly? Your web browser cannot download the registered install?Comment

Two separate things, the sticking registering DLLS, try uninstalling dBpoweramp, full restart of Windows (ensure it up to date), then install dBpoweramp.
The Control Center not connecting, that is likely your firewall which is blocking, it does not stop the program working, at that point it is already installed.Comment

...also how to do a full reset of dBpoweramp? (if dBpoweramp crashes for some reason) Where does dBpoweramp save its files / settings? It is installed to c:\Program Files\Illustrate\dBpoweramp or c:\Program Files (x86)\Illustrate\dBpoweramp The 64 bit version of dBpoweramp is installed to: c:\Program Files\dBpoweramp It
Run that, do not check the option to clear the settings, just the program.
Then full restart of Windows, then install. If it gets stuck on registering dlls, that does not matter, the program is installed at that point.Comment

Well I don't know what else to do. For many days I have tried to get dBpoweramp to work and it's failed me every time. Not sure what you have done to it. I have had this software for many years and had no problems with updates.
I have bought Revo software and fully uninstalled dBpoweramp.
I've followed your instructions to the letter for re install and for resetting but no good. The registering dlls hangs every time and the cd ripper will not rip nor of course encode.
All I can do now is to buy MS Nero but I feel let down by dBpower (Illustrate)Comment

>cd ripper will not rip nor of course encode.
This is the first time you have discussed that, and gave us no chance to help...
The update connection to dBpoweramp is not required, the download can be downloaded directly.
The registering the dlls is not an issue either, it would not stop the program from running.Comment

Yes, you are right, I have been so engrossed trying to find a solution on line that I didn’t realise that I hadn’t told you the full story in the thread and I apologise for that.
I bought an upgrade to dBpoweramp and it seemed to have loaded fine but the cd ripper isn’t working and therefore the encoder isn’t working either. The register of DLLS just hangs.
I haven’t changed any of the default settings in the software nor on my laptop so the McAfee settings are the same as before.
Just to check, I have tried the external cd player on a different laptop and it seems to be OK and I have also used the cd player on the old laptop with a previous version of dBpoweramp
I have tried it on a trial copy of Nero and it’s fine.
One other thing is that when I plug in my cd player, I can’t close the dBpoweramp software I have to disconnect the player and go to task manager to close out the application.
I have used the external cd player in an old laptop with an older version of dBpoweramp and the ripping is working properly.
I have had dBpoweramp for many years so I’m not sure what options I now have to make it work.
I have followed your previous instructions to the letter so it is frustrating; do you have any suggestions please?

What happens when you load CD Ripper? does it show the disc contents? get metadata? when click rip what happens? any errors shown?Comment

Likely a setting for the cd drive
Set the ripping mode to Burst (not secure), does that work when clicking rip?Comment
