Downloaded EAC but having problems configuring AccurateRip. Please READ b4 commenting
Hi I recently downloaded EAC because I was trying to rip the Singles (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)[Deluxe Edition] from 2017, which I found out was an EU pressing. I use an ASUS BW-16D1H-U PRO blu-ray drive which I had bought in June 2022. and up till this point I had already ripped some 20-30 CDs, including the Singles soundtrack into FLAC, using the Window's Media Player built-in ripping tool.
The first issue I experienced with this tool was ripping YOASOBI's Idol CD (the limited edition one). I put it into the drive and I started my usual routine of ripping. Everything went well until when I decided to playback, and to my horror, I discovered a few seconds of silence at random parts of both tracks 1 and 2. I tried ripping the CD again and listening back many times until I did not hear any random spots of silence. Every time I ripped the CD, the 'silent spot' was at a different spot.
The second issue using Window's Media Player built-in ripping tool was trying to again rip Disc 1 of the Singles soundtrack deluxe edition, specifically the last track 'Drown' by Smashing Pumpkins, which had random static during the feedback solo at around 7mins40s into the song, which I unfortunately discovered on my way to school earlier this week. No matter how many times I ripped, there was still that random distorted static, or pops. All of this lead me to discover EAC as an alternative CD ripping software.
This is where my struggles started to pile up. I ran into the common issue of trying to trigger the 'AccurateRip' pop up so that I can configure it. But my CDs were ineffective. I tried Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Green Day, Nirvana, Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Depeche Mode CDs. None of them worked. I only got the 'Communicating with accuraterip: connecting' pop up. Also, I couldn't find my drive in the AccurateRip list [HTML]https://accuraterip.com/driveoffsets.htm[/HTML] , the closest was 'ASUS - BW-16D1HT', but it wasn't the same (in EAC, my drive is listed as 'ASUS BW-16D1H-U E115'). I also looked at other forums to enable/disable certain options in 'Drive/Offset' and 'EAC' Options just in case, but no such luck. For now, I have manually adjusted the offset of my drive to '+6'
I ripped 'Drown' by Smashing Pumpkins from the disc without configuring the AccurateRip tool. Thankfully the random static distortion is gone. The thing is, when playing the disc in Windows Media Player there was nothing wrong. It was after ripping when the recent issues started to pop up.
Right now I'm at a crossroad. I want to be able to accurately archive all my CDs, but without AccurateRip, I'm not sure if I am capable of doing so. I am a student, so buying CDs without knowing whether it would trigger the AccurateRip popup is not financially worth it, and since I live in Singapore, Discogs have been blacklisted in my country (probably due to the GST hike). And I don't know whether I will encounter the same ' no AccurateRip popup' issue if I buy dBpoweramp and buy the dBpoweramp Music Converter along with PerfectTUNES, since the latter contains AccurateRip.
If anyone has advice/suggestions, please feel free to help me. I am extremely new to all of this, a complete n00b.
