Fixed Value Tags (FLAC): ENCODEDBY and ENCODER

    Hi...

We wish to establish a fixed-value field names for one existing VorbisComment (FLAC tag) and to redefine an existing tag in the list of meta tags as a custom fixed-value tag with a value other than the default tag. At the same time, we do not wish to write this tag: ENCODED BY, as we prefer field names with contiguous characters.

In addition, we wish to create a third fixed-value tag with the field name FORMAT.

Here are examples of the desired fixed-value tags:

ENCODER: dBpoweramp Reference v.15.1, Compression Level 5, FLAC 1.3.0

    ENCODEDBY: Fullfidelity Music®

    FORMAT: A=FLAC,F=44100,W=16,M=Stereo

We have no problem creating fixed-value tags for the desired ENCODEDBY and FORMAT fields. However, dBpoweramp does not permit us to create a fixed-value tag with the field name ENCODER.

If we check the ENCODER tag in the Options > Meta menu, dBpoweramp automatically writes this: ENCODER=(FLAC 1.3.0) instead of the desired fixed-value tag. If we do not check the ENCODER tag, dBpoweramp ignores the fixed-value tag that we defined, and no ENCODER tag is written. This is objectionable in our view.

What we ask is to allow the field name ENCODER to be used with a fixed-value other than dBpoweramp's default value. Of course this means that we need to ensure that the value of the ENCODER tag is kept current with respect to the actual version in use.

Your help with this would be appreciated. Our other choice (less desirable) is to create a custom field name such as CODEC for this fixed-value expression, but we'd rather not do that, since CE Ripper serves as an encoder and not a decoder when ripping CDs to FLAC.

Thanks in advance for considering this request.

You have tried the DSP Effect: ID Tag Processing with Encoder set as an Addition, with your value?

We had not tried your DSP Effect because we were unaware of it. Had I known about it, it is not self-evident as to what it was supposed to do or how it would behave—in this case create a fixed-value tag. Is there a glossary or table of contents on your website that describes each of the DSP effects and how best to use them?

Having said that, it seems to work fine and solves the problem, albeit a bit less obvious to the user that is unaware of its presence.

With so many little "tricks" to configuring dBpoweramp and with several seats in use, I'm going to post another topic on a somewhat related subject. Look for it under the heading "config file."

      Thanks for your quick reply.
