You don't seem to understand. There are lots of bad rips in the database, but the chances are miniscule that you will match someone else's bad rip (unless you took his or her physical CD and ripped it ... then chances are still not big though).

For the sake of the argument, consider a particular track; suppose that there are many scratched of this particular CD around, so that there are as many as 16 persons (for most CDs, that would be a big exaggregation!) having submitted a unique checksum from a bad rip for this particular track. That means there are 16 potential false verification, but what is the chance that you will hit one of them?

There are 16^8 possible checksums (that is eight sixteens multiplied with each other). Under uniform distribution, the chance of hitting any of 16 poisonous ones, is then 1 to 16^7, or one in 268 435 456.

The problem here is that Gbeer7 believes that he could personally be that 1 in 268,435,456 persons. In fact he believes the odds are high that he IS THAT PERSON.
