After learning about Average bitrate, I found that it was fantastic in the sense that it was a balance between a VBR and a CBR. Now, this would be great, since most songs have a complex and a simple part. People would also have limited space sometimes, and so they are stuck on a CBR most of the time if they are limited.
So, the ABR would then work like a VBR in compressing the simple parts further, and then keep the complex ones with a higher bitrate. Now, this is the difference. The ABR would then generate a filesize which is nearly identical to a CBR file, which means that people get higher quality audio with a predictable filesize.
As far as I know, only the MP3 encoder has the ABR function, none other have them. Wouldn't it be fantastic if we could have ABR on all of the codecs that do the encoding?
