In case you're unaware, there's an open-source attempt at rivalling the All Music Guide starting up at http://musicmoz.org/ . It's set up by some of the more musically-inclined editors from Netscape's Open Directory Project (though it is not run by or associated with Netscape).
Anyway, how about an item on the context menu in MMC that takes you to the artist page on MusicMoz? For example, right-clicking on a Spice Girls song would take you to http://musicmoz.org/Bands_and_Artists/S/Spice_Girls/ .
Although some entries are a little blank (some merely contain links to official and unofficial sites), others have biographies, concert reviews, discographies and what-have-you. Any member of the public can sign up to be an editor, so content may expand in the future.
