Possibility to use the "My Network Places" function..

Often, I will recompress my FLAC and/or APE files (which are on my home computer) to low bitrate OGG for playback on my work computer. For that, I need to recode the files and then FTP them to work.

But, Windows has a function, called My Network Places in WindowsXP or Web Folders (I think) on other versions of Windows, that allows to connect directly to a FTP/Web server. Would it be all that hard to implement usage of those Web folders in DMC so that I could recode and upload all in the same operation?

Also, in the mean time, does anyone know of a way to map an FTP server to a drive letter so that I could use it that way?

    Thanks!

It is all new to me, I think it is something special in Internet Explorer, as an example try to save a Word document, or Text file to that place.

Might be harder to implement than what I first thought seeing as Word refuses to save to a Web folder, yet I can access it just fine through Windows Explorer.

Oh well it was just a wish

Though if you think it's something that could be interesting (and used by more people than just me), you could look around on the net on how to connect to a WebDAV or, as Microsoft puts it in the Help & Support section of Windows XP:

Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV)

An application protocol related to HTTP 1.1 that allows clients to transparently publish and manage resources on the World Wide Web.

That just gave me an idea though.. Maybe I can't have DMC send the output directly to a WebDAV, but I could use the WebDAV to upload the files using Windows Explorer instead of the FTP client.. hmm.. oops! just thinking out loud :D

some FTP programes can be set to scan and upload whatever is in a dolder you have assigned to be upload. and can have set times when the action is to occur.

        i think http://www.bpftp.com/ does it.

        quote from here : http://www.bpftp.com/support/special...?header=faq#q1

"Q1) How do I use "monitor directory"?

        A1)
        1) Configure BPFTP with the details of the site you're intending to upload to (hostname, login, password, remote dir).
        2) Set the local directory to the directory where you store the local version of your website.
        3) Right click on the local listing and select monitor directory.
        4) Modify your website as needed, BPFTP will detect changes in the local listing and automatically upload to the site (it'll connect if necessary). "

it's a simple but effect way of automating the process.

basically whenever you drop a file in the assigned folder FTP will do the rest.
