Hi
I'm a non registered user at the moment, but I used to be a professional software tester, so I thought this might be useful.
When using v9a of dMC to rip to MP3 I insert a CD and use dMC Audio CD Input to connect to FreeDB and download the CD contents.
The connection to FreeDB only ever works if I connect directly to the internet via a dialup modem. If I connect via the office corporate LAN or via the home LAN (which is firewalled broadband) then the lookup to FreeDB fails and tells me to check my internet connection.
I originally tried the alternate FreeDB hosts available from FreeDB.ORG and tried re-entering the default settings by hand, but nothing, unless I use the dialup connection.
I have put a packet trace on the machine and tested it again and there is NO traffic leaving the machine at all, again, unless it is connected directly to a dial-up internet connection and then it all works fine.
There are no firewalls blocking the traffic on the LANs or on the machine and no wierd proxy settings or proxy software that would cause the traffic to be redirected elsewhere, it just never sends out a single packet. Other software that performs FreeDB lookups works fine using the CGI on port 80 and directl lookup on port 8880.
It looks to me like a software bug, as I see a few others in these forums with the same problem and they rarely seem to find a solution.
Please let me know if I can help with testing a fix.
Cheers
James
