DSD: tagging and indexing of dsd/dff-files

    Hi Spoon

I am currently discussing the streaming of dsd (.dff)-files via LAN with a hardware developer. Goal is to come up with a streaming client, that can decode and process dsd-files in its hardware, so any software conversion of dsd files to a lossless format would become obsolete.

Since Asset uPnP (afaik) is able to stream these files in native format, if requested to do so, all what is missing imho seems to be the possibility to tag and index those files.
Do you see the chance to come up with that in dbpoweramp & Asset uPnP?

I assume, that currently there is no common standard for tagging dsd/dff files, so maybe, it would be a good idea to just use the tagging specifications for flac-files, what do you think?
Another option/enhancement may be to use cue-files and "uncut" dsd-files, but I never got deeper into the cue-matter, so I don't know, how far support goes regarding Asset->control point->streaming client. So maybe dsd-track-files would be the starting point...

Hopefully, you can support this request with your knowledge and make it happen with dbpoweramp/Asset!

    Thanks

    See:

There exists a standard where the stream is put into FLAC and sent as is.

thanks for pointing out this document. The developer already has a device, that can process DSD files via USB. It's hardware decoding of native DSD-files, avoiding any software conversion to another format beforehand.

But what currently is in discussion, is a new device connected to a home network: we're trying to STREAM DSD via LAN. So, here Asset uPnP comes in and - hopefully - your support. All that is needed, is the possibilty to TAG dff-files using dbpoweramp, and Asset being able to read these tags, so it could index them as any other supported format and pass this information on to a control point such as Asset Control, Songbook etc., that controls the (yet to develop) streaming client.
Right now, using dbpoweramp's built in tag editor does not apply/save tags to dsd-files, and whether Asset uPnP is able to read them, I don't know

So, would you be willing to make it possible to save tags into dsd-files and index them, using dbpoweramp and Asset uPnP?

      Thanks

It would be best to use the existing standard and embed into FLAC with tags, rather than to tag dsd native files and have asset create a new streaming format based on this.

A bit of confusion here perhaps: DFF Files (DSDIFF)are used in creating the master file layouts that eventually go to make the glass masters for SACDS. They are not designed to take ID3v2 tags. Confusingly some download sates and DSD Data disc vendors are selling DSDIFF files. If they do its a kludge and a non standard use of the DFF file format. DSF files on the other hand are designed to have an Id3v2 tagging region and are the best consumer format for computer audio. DSF file tagging can already be achieved with other software products. And as an aside the DoP standard is not a format conversion DoP stands for DSD over PCM. The DSD bits are packed into a pattern that looks like PCM and transported over the USB wire. However the bits are realigned as one bit data and played as DSD natively. Its a standard proposed by DCS and a number of other indutsry players. In a nutshell whoever you convince should be writing to DSF file format for tagging not DSDIFF (Intermediate file format)

http://dsd-guide.com/sites/default/f...rmatSpec_E.pdf ID3v2 tags are explicitly supported

reviving an old thread.... can the current version of DBPA (Windows) create/edit tags for DFF files? So I can apply Artist, Title, Year.... add cover art, etc..

            Thanks

dBpoweramp can tag .DSF files, .DFF files have no tags
