The CD Ripper is amazing. However, one area lacking in my opinion is the fetching of album art. The cover art grabbed from AMG (I suppose?) is always low-rez and low-quality. The cover art doesn't look good at all, when you blow it up in a media player.

There are many web sources with systematic cover art html-structure so that a script for downloading them in a separate application can be written. To my knowledge, such sources include Discogs, Rateyourmusic and Amazon, to name some. Most of the cover art in these sites is mid- or high-rez and Discogs in particular sometimes includes scans of back and even booklet.

Since it must be hard or impossible to code a script for automatically choosing the best picture, this feature would require human interaction. Therefore the present cover art download feature should remain as an option.

What do you guys think of this?

I agree. In particular I have requested Discogs many times. Spoon has commented on Amazon and will not implement a hacked system that may be blocked, though if DSP creation was opened up it would be nice because anyone could add new sources!

Note you can still manually click the "+" button and add album art manually, either from a file or from the clipboard.

I think there is little chance of getting another premium provider but Muze provides VERY high resolution album art as well as good meta-data:

You would have to contact them directly. No idea how much it would cost for an individual. I don't know of any software that tags with Muze.

I happen to think that google image search is a fine substitute. When dbpoweramp's art is lacking I have found some really stunning samples by using google that I just plop into dbpoweramp which automatically rescales them, if necessary.

Actually, I think thats a bug. I wish the user had the option not to rescale the image.

Ideally, I would like to save a very high resolution to the album folder, and add a "reasonable" size file to the album tags.

You can disable resizing in CD Ripper and add a DSP effect to resize album art of only the internal ID Tag.
