    Faster FLAC ripping

    I love dMC!

I have the latest version of dMC and the Power Pack (registered).

I do wish that dMC could be a bit faster at ripping and encoding to FLAC. I have compared dMC vs. Litex Fast CD Ripper (http://www.litexmedia.com/cd_ripper/) and the latter is noticeably faster. dMC routinely takes 15+ minutes to rip a CD to FLAC whereas Litex does the same CD in about 8 minutes. This is with AccurateRip unchecked in dMC.

My impression is that the Reference Edition will not help, since I have a Pentium 4 1.6 GHz with a single core. Is that assumption correct?

I don't know how Litex achieves its speed, but are there any potential optimizations that can be done to dMC to make it compare more favorably performance-wise?

Performance aside, I much prefer dMC over Fast CD Ripper, as dMC wins with features, usability, stability, and support.

Thanks, Spoon, for the great software!

    -Marc

To rule out flac as being the slow part (it should not be), rip with both programs to wave.

AccurateRip will only help CD Ripper (if you had secure mode selected), not slow it down.

I hope you'll provide a new codec as soon as you are able. :-)

Is FLAC 1.1.4 a final version or just a beta?

Edit: Nevermind, it's a final version, but they can't update the webpage yet. See here: http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/flac...ry/000713.html

OK, well I have no idea what happened, but I ripped some more CDs and dMC was blazing fast - about 4 minutes! To be honest, I don't know what changed.
