Use Apple SDK / iTunes to encode m4a?

I have my entire CD collection in nicely tagged FLAC files, and would love to point the file selector at my folder tree and have it start making a copy in 160kbps AAC format for my iPod.

But! I want to use Apple's own encoder not Ahead/Nero's.

I took a look at Apple's SDK and it looks like you can have it import WAVs and then fix their tags, so it should be possible to
    - decode FLAC to WAV, buffering tags
    - tell iTunes to import the WAVs
    - tell iTunes to fix the tags

I'm tempted to try this myself in VC++ 6, but then I have to learn the FLAC library too.

This is possible already with dBpowerAMP. Just download the Generic CLI Codec from codec central and setup a link to:

This can call iTune's encoder externally.
