I'm trying out both of the aoTuV B4 codecs (with the beta Ogg 1.1.1 codec).
Both work on my 1.3 gHz Celeron.

Just installed the SSE2 and main codec. One thing I noticed, though, is that though the Ogg codec picked up and prompted me about my old Ogg codec still being installed, the SSE2 one did not, probably since the new one is b4 and the old one is b3.

Edit: Ripped just fine, but haven't listened to them yet as my headphones are elsewhere. Also, do players have to support the new Vorbis 1.1.1 for them to properly play these songs, or will they be fine if they play Ogg Vorbis now?

I did not run into this but I did install my old Ogg codec (but to the aoTuV b3 and b3 SSE codecs) before I installed Ogg 1.1.1.

Ogg 1.1.1 is playable in all players.

B3 is seperate, it will still be installed in Music Converter.

Everytime i try to encode a cd using beta 4 it outputs empty files (0KB). Was there a setting i missed?

Double-check that you are pointing to the encoder. Go to the compression settings and make sure the path to the .exe file is correct.

When you first try this codec, and many of the other newer codecs it seems, click on the button in dMC that reads Locate Encoder and then (assuming you have installed dMC and your codec to the default locations) just click on OK.
After you have used it the first time, you should not need to do this again.

If that does not help, what Ogg settings were you trying to encode to? What type of processor do you have? Does the ssame problem occur with the standard Ogg 1.1.1 beta? Have you tried both aoTuV beta 4 codecs (with and without SSE)? Does either one work?

for the standard Ogg codec it works fine.
The first time that i try to encode it prompts me to locate the codec which i point it to:
D:\Program Files\Illustrate\dBpowerAMP\Compression\Ogg Vorbis aoTuV b4 SSE2\oggenc2.exe

I set the Frequency to 44,100 Hz and the channels only let me select mono or source.

I set the Quality to 7

I'm running an AMD 1GHz

I just installed DMC so most of the settings are default.

Under the dMC Audio CD Input options i have
Rip to: Ogg Vorbis
Write ID Tags: Checked
CD Drive: Sony DVD RW DRU-720

Retrieve Titles: Checked
Smart Formatting: Checked

Accurate Rip
AR Enabled: Unchecked
Status: Unconfigured - waiting for key disc

Everything else is blank

So it is the aoTuV b4 SSE codec that you tried and doesn't work?
Have you/can you try the aoTuV b4 codec? Do you get the same result? (The aoTuV b4 requires Pentium 3 or equivalent processor, including AMD Athlon, the SSE version requires a Pentium 4 or equivalent processor and thus may be more demanding).

It may be that one or both codecs may not work with your particular processor.
If that is the case, you might still try the aoTuV b3 and b3 SSE codecs.

Perhaps another user might have another suggestion.

Have tried both the new standard OGG and the new SSE2 OGG on a P4 @ 2.4 Ghz w/ 1 gb DDR333 ram on an Asus P4S533 mobo. Used q0 files on an Iriver IFP-799 and a Samsung YP-T6Z with no problem.

Does anyone understand the difference between the b4 release and the b3 release? I'm assuming it is an improvement, but it seems to have a slightly lower bitrate than the b3 release. Also, I did a spectrum analysis with sound forge 6 to see what the encoder cut out from the original, and the fragments cut out were in almost completely different places at different concentrations.
Does it do it at random eery time a file gets encoded?

If it isn't too much trouble, could someone explain to me specifically how these lossy encoders work, so that I can have a better understanding of which format I should use?

As for HOW they work, I don't know. Most of them cut off some high frequencies and low frequencies, then compress the rest. The rate of compression depends on the bitrate you choose.

Also, the difference between b3 and b4 is that b3 is based on Vorbis 1.1.0 and b4 is based on 1.1.1 which has some improvements to how it encodes and the like.

The encoders with SSE2 (available for aoTuV b3 and b4) are designed to work faster without compromising audio quality. They do seem to requirer a bit more processor capability, however.
