As I asked for this, it seems only fair that I should test it. ;-) I gave it a drive today and seemed to work AOK!

Anyone have a feeling for the relative quality difference (if any) between the QT encoder, the iTunes encoder and the default m4a encoder?

The default m4a encoder, using FAAC, is normally regarded as the best free encoder. As for if it is better or worse than the iTunes or Quicktime encoder, that probably falls to personal taste.

I think iTunes has the edge on FAAC.
