dMC Configuration will display the Directshow extensions by the DirectShow decoder codec. The codec requires you to configure the codec manually for each DirectShow dll, as is outlined in the directions for the codec and the various .dll's for it. Once they are properly installed they will show up in dMC Configuration in the list of decoder codecs on the line starting DirectShow Decoder and after release 1.
Right now, all I can see is to go to your system32 folder (normally C:\Windows\System32) and do a search for *.ax files. These seem to be the DirectShow splitter files.
I installed the DS codex and the configuration shows only ".xyz".
The Radlight filter manager shows many filters are in place and under direct show, several hundred filters. Everything from .ram through creative, mpg, nero,
wmt, xml and a bunch of external renderers.
Hummm, I think i'm in over my head here, what i have works fine so its best
not to mess with it. I do conversions from 'whatever' to mp3 only and its doing
great. Best of all, the ra/rm to mp3 via auxillary works good, just have to play
the ra/rm via winamp and let the Aux do its thing, a little slow but it works.
That's because you were supposed to manually add more lines for other possible extensions in the file of DirecShow filter extensions. .xyz was just an example in the file, subsequent lines should have the actual extensions to be handled, like .rm or .ra, one per line.
Just edit that file in Notepad and add whatever else you need.

Yes, realize the xyz was an example, no problem. I just thought that it would
have listed any extensions that was already in effect within directshow. No
biggie, i can add extensions.
Ah, that file comes empty except for the example with .xyz. You have to add what you need to it. I suppose that would be because it depends which filters you actually have installed. From Real ALterantive you get the real media filters. There may be other filters you can install separately, for other types, by other means. I don't really know what other DirectShow filters are possibly involved, but I'm sure there are others for other file types. Murky area for me here. :o
The Real Audio DirectShow plug-in should be able to read files with the following extensions: .ra .rpm .rm .ram .rmvb
But you must list those extensions in your DirectShow configuration file and verify them in dMC Configuration for them to be read.
It is possible that your files may have one of the different extensions. I believe that I have heard of some commercial download sites that use RealAudio format with a copy protection feature.
Of course, if you can listen to them but not convert them then perhaps the problem is a conversion using different frequencies or channel settings. For different frequency conversions enable Professional Frequency conversion in dMC Configuration. You might see if you can successfully test convert these 2 files and/or convert them to standard wave.
Well, I added those other .rxxx extensions to the directshow listing.
Tried it again but got the same msg - "Directshow filter for ".ra" not installed
or audio file is corrupt".
When i use stream-ripper, both files can be converted to mp3, wav, etc.
The Aux will also convert them successfully.
No problem, they are converted just not through the directshow codex.
I think in this case you might have been able to convert them using the old Real media codec (without the DirectShow filters). I'm not sure how it can be distiguished though, since it seems the installation of the DirectShow codec and filters overrides the usage of the older Real media codecs, which run in real time.
When you installed RA, did you also install the RealMedia DirectShow Splitter? I think that's what its called. An easy check would be if you can play your .ra files and the like in Windows Media Player.
