dMC r11 RC1 - no "Convert to..." option for MP3

    Hi,

I installed dMC release 11 rc1 and unlike r10, it does not let me use MP3 files as input for conversion.

Is this something to do with the Power Pack and MP3 license that is now part of dMC since release 11?

Converting Wave and all that is fine. But right clicking on any MP3 file, I don't get either "Convert to..." or "Edit tag".

Does anyone know why this is so? I would be very grateful if someone could help out or tell me what I need to know (or what I'm doing wrong! o_O) Thanks in advance for any help.

First, open up dMC Configuration (Start > All Programs > dBpowerAMP Music Converter > Configuration > dMC Configuration. Check to see if you have any read or write codec for mp3.

I am going to assume you do not and I am going to assume that you do not have Power Pack installed, is that right? If so, you will need the Power Pack to work with mp3 files. Were you offered a separate option for this or did it come with your dMC r11 RC1 download? My understanding was that Power Pack was part of the download (in a trial version). If you need to install it separately go ahead and do so. (In my own case I already had Power Pack and it was updated automatically with my dMC r11 RC1 download and installation).

dMC Configuration can also confirm whether you have Power Pack installed, you might want to check there as well.

If, for some reason, these ideas do not help, please let us know. Also, if you can confirm whether your dMC Configuration shows that you do or do not have Power Pack and/or the mp3 read and write codecs installed, what your operating system is, whether the installation was done with Administrative Priviledges on your operating system (if it was not, you will be advised to uninstall the program and re-install it with administrative priviledges), and whether you have ever tried the older trial version of Power Pack (which may or may not have anything to do with with your psoblem).

    Good luck and best wishes,

Re: dMC r11 RC1 - no "Convert to..." option for MP3

I installed the dMC-r11-rc1.exe package "as-is", on a dMC-free Windows 98SE system. So yes, as you said the Power Pack included is a trial, and I believe the LAME encoder is too (although I think LAME is terrible, well, lame).

Should I try downloading the other MP3 codecs from Codec Central? Maybe I only have an MP3 read codec. Although I think I saw a Lame.dll in Multiplayer\Input, whatever that folder is for.

I'll try out your suggestions. Thanks for your reply and let me know if you find the answer! Like you said , it's probably something to do with the LAME being on trial, even though its encoding possibilities seem unlimited (any bitrate, vbr. etc).

      Thanks again!

Did you download and install the additional system files for Windows 98? If you already did this for an earlier version of dMC you wouldn't need to do this again. These files are available from the dMC link at the top of the page and my belief/understanding is that they are needed for optimal performance for dMC in 98SE systems.

Then check out those items in dMC configuration and let us know if the Power Pack, and mp3 read and write codecs show as being installed. Yes you can try one of the other mp3 codecs although these are for writing mp3 files. I don't know whether the mp3 decoder (which in this version is the MAD-MPEG Audio Decoder-decoder, rather than Lame) is also a power pack item or not. If it is and it is not installed, you won't be able to convert/play mp3 files so you will still need to straighten out this other issue.

        Best wishes,

Convert To is not dependant on any Power Pack option, try unchecking that option in dMC Configuration that installs it, then re-run the dMC Config and check that option.
