The bit rate of HE-AAC(v.1 and v.2) is too high.

Thanks for pointing it out, it will be changed.

In meanwhile, we already check against known bitrate limits of afconvert, so we do not fail if asked to encode an unsupported config - the bitrate is simply reduced to the nearest known working value.

This is a complicated matter, because the allowed bitrate change scales with the channel count, and the encoder configuration dialog has no knowledge of what the encoded channel count will be. Still, the highest apparent bitrate is 32kbps/channel for HE-AACv1 and 24kbps/channel for HE-AACv2, so the highest that's likely to be used - assuming 7.1 8-channel audio - is 256kbps and 192kbps respectively.

Beta 3 posted, both AAC encoder pages have been altered to prevent invalid configurations from being entered.
Some notes:
FDK AAC allows four VBR scale values for HE-AAC, two for HE-AACv2.
Interestingly it does not seem to restrict CBR bitrates, happily encodes mono files at 512kbps.
We now allow every possible value in 0...127 rage for Apple AAC VBR.
Apple AAC CBR still allows possibly invalid settings to be entered as the encoder configuration dialog does not know how many channels your files have; in such case the nearest allowed bitrate will be used.

Beta 4 posted, made Apple AAC encoder page behave more consistently.

Since there don't seem to be any pending issues, we'll push to stable shortly.

I think I'm seeing something odd with the beta, though it could just be my drive/computer. If I attempt to rip more than one CD, the second one seems to read as if it were bad -- that is, it reads very slowly. If I stop the rip and exit dbPoweramp, I get a notification that says the drive is still in use.

No, 16.3 works smoothly on repeated rips.
