New here so I am hoping to get some help. Wanted to try Asset so downloaded the OSX version to my Mac Mini. Won't be using a NAS but that is on the radar. Opened Asset and there is a message that says: "Could not open UpnP service port blind failure, please close other." I was able to go into the Configure section and pointed to my FireWire drive music folder. Upon update I saw that my music files were found. Not sure what I do next so any help appreciated. If this helps I seem to have version 0.11 and a 30 day trial.
I do not have eyecandy running. What is on the MacMini is JRiver which I am currently using as the server and library. Controller is either JRemote or PlugPlayer and renderer is Resolution Audio Cantat. Airport Extreme is the network and wifi.
Well somehow it finally worked. However, PlugPlayer was giving me all sorts of "read file" errors and when it was able to read them the files were categorized incorrectly. Lots of missing art work too. Pretty disappointing so I am back with JRiver for now. Where do I find the latest version?
Okay thanks. I also tried Minimserver and it worked flawlessly with PlugPlayer. However, while it did a better job of categorizing the music, it was still pretty sloppy. Has to be a better way to tag in these servers. I guess I need to learn more about that as I am sure the capability is there.
* Fixed crash in IP address enum causing Asset not to work on certain devices.
* Prevented playback stall while indexing library.
* .AAC files are now supported.
As far as I am aware, AirPort Extreme doesn't support UPNP. I tried that configuration removing my BT HomeHub router and connecting the Airport Extreme directly to the fibre optic modem and could not see my UPNP servers from any renderer. Put the Airport Extreme in Bridge Mode (so it still delivers your wifi) and re-introduce a non-Apple router to provide DHCP and all was good again. After much web research I came to conclusion Apple routers don't properly support UPNP. If anyone can explain in detail how I can run UPNP with just Apple Routers I can save some electricity:smile2:.
As Spoon said it is definitely worth checking in System Prefs if you have EyeConnect on your Mac. That had me confounded for ages because I had never knowingly installed it but it was blocking Asset. EyeTV in my case had added EyeConnect automatically. With EyeConnect running, Asset is crippled although there are workarounds - see earlier in this forum.
