        Apples own Encoder is used.

        This is the beta.

Re: Apple Lossless [Apple Open Source Encoder / Decoder]

I have a problem when using the beta ALAC codec to encode 5.1 multi channel files. When I encode 5.1 files with high frequencies or sample size (96 kHz or 48 kHz / 24 bits), the resulting ALACs have negative chunk offsets in STCO box. I could upload samples ALAC files if it can help (but they are quite big).

All files I used for my tests (including WAV source files) take less than 350 mb.

What exactly do you mean "negative chunk offsets"? STCO specification quite clearly says that the offsets are unsigned integers so they cannot be negative, am I right?

As you probably know values are negative if we convert them to signed integers, and they are very big integers if they are unsigned. Here is a screenshot :

Thanks for the report, I think I have a good idea what the issue is. An update correcting it will be posted shortly.

Thanks, I do not have STCO problem anymore.

Hi - does this beta codec add the meta data before the other data so to optmise for streaming? Will a dBpa ripped version differ in any way from an iTunes ripped file?

                            Thanks!

Tags are written before the data.

dBpoweramp will at least tell you if the track contains ripping errors...
