Hmm, still didn't get it - what's the difference b/n this mode and compression = 0 in FLAC? The stream must be in flac format according to the flac spec, meaning that the flac encoding should be done over the LPCM data and on the other side the renderer still has to decode the flac stream. Otherwise, the renderer will refuse the stream as invalid flac stream... I just can't get the benefits, but this could be because of my limited knowledge on these technologies. The main argument for WAV against FLAC on the audiophile side is that the decoding of the FLAC stream requires more computer power, which could reflect the SQ. But, if we stream again flac this effect remains, even if perhaps the computation power will be less, doesn't it?

Computation will be less, but disk I/O will be higher, and disk I/O is orders of magnatude slower than the CPU.

Bug Rport: Strange behaoviour of artist sort tag

since I have the newest beta of 14.1 installed, a strange
behaviour of the artistsort tag occurs, while ripping:
sometimes the artistsort tag shows the same artist twice.
This behaviour doesn't depend on the disc but on the artist

It always occured while ripping cds
        with Artist:

        Cher (more than 10 CDs)
Led Zeppelin (more than 5 CDs)
        Nico (3cds until now)

        It didn't occur
        with artist:
        pink floyd (10 CDs ripped)

As I rip to flac the doubling means that 2 tags exist

The 2 tags are shown on ID MEta tab
        even before ripping!

So for the ArtistSort it might show:

          Cher; Cher

                all recently with 14.1
actually this evening I have the Artist Sort tag showing:

                Velvet Underground; Velvet Underground

(as the Album Artist Sort shows as: "Velvet Underground, The"
I assume that the original entry af the Artist Sort Tag in
the database used is "Velvet Underground, The" too)

And CD Ripper only lists one Velvet Underground when ripping (in the metadata section)? You have no DSP effects, such as ID Tag Processing?

No, actually it lists the 2 Velvet underground even before ripping !
(therefor the minor ID tag processing I'm doing while ripping
                    shouldn't cause the problem.

Actually it depends on the service I choose:

                    the perfect lookup shows as:

                    Artist: Velvet Undergroud, The
Artist Sort: Velvet Underground; Velvet Underground

                    retrieve from all media guide:

Artist: The Velvet Undergroud; The Velvet Undergroud
Artist Sort: Velvet Underground; Velvet Underground

                    retrieve from GD3:

                    Artist: The Velvet Undergroud
Artist Sort: Velvet Underground; Velvet Underground

retrieve from Music Brainz and freedb:

                    Artist: The Velvet Undergroud
                    Artist Sort: Velvet Underground, The

(this is explicitly tested with the first CD of the 5 CD Set
                    peel slowly and see)

I do not see how R14.1 could introduce this, if the metadata providers are providing the data direct. Do you want to go back to R14 (uninstall R14.1, install R14) then check that disc again to see what the Artist sort is from the various providers.
