Can I convert wma,mp3 to 5.1 channel audio?

My system contains Creative 5.1 surround card + 5.1 speaker system.I tried to convert wma or mp3 by using Windows Media Audio Professional
to 5.1 channel but program warns me with a error msg.

Don't try to change frequency and bits and channels all at the same time.

Do it several steps, changing only one of these in each step.

I changed a standard pcm wav (16-bits, 44.1KHz, 2-channel stereo) first to 5.1 channels wav, kept freqnecy and bits as source.

Then one step at a time I changed the bits, then the frequency. Always saving under name names.

At the end I converted to wma, for the same bits, frequency & channels, just picking the bitrate.

Your source audio has to be 5.1 to encode to WMA 5.1 channels.

          yup..

going from 2ch to 6 is just a waste, use a good decoder to make it sound "surrounding"

You select to convert to wav again (not compressed, so click on the bits radio button) and then use the drop down lists for channels or frequency or bits. They should all be there.
