How do I set 192kbps cbr in faac?

I want to create nearly a hundred more m4a files to add to my music library and I don't want to have several encoding types (128/192/320). I have had problems with the itunes encoder, leaving me with the job of sorting out files that ended up as 0.0kb or did not come up at all and the error window of db does not give me the track# or input filename... So I was wondering if there was another way to do this. I have searched the docs on this site and faac mainsite and found nothing to do with cbr.

Is there a "-b" / "-c" options that will result in a 192cbr m4a file?
Can someone suggest another option to create a CBR 192kbps .m4a file using dbpower amp?

Have you tried using the Nero encoder? I know it encodes to CBR, but requires a registered version of Nero v5 or v6.

I have not because of previous warnings on the forum that it does not work with nero 7.

Ahh, point taken.
Anyway, is there a particular reason you want a 192 CBR instead of a 192 VBR file? Do you have a player that only plays CBR?

I've got an ipod 4g, I have tried a few vbr and abr and found that (for me) the best quality for the size of the files was 192kbps. If possible I also wanted to keep the quality the same for all files so I didn't have some done @ 128, some @ 320, cbr, vbr and.....

If you could use vbr, then I think you would want to use either quality settings of 150, 175 or (possibly) 200 to get files around 192 kbs. You will find that actual bitrates vary from file to file using any single setting. Edit: You should find actual quality to be roughly equivalent within each Quality setting despite differences in actual bitrate.

Barring that, you might try the QuickTime v7 encoder which is in Beta and available here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=8811 (this requires registered version of QuickTime 7).

Generally speaking vbr will give a higher quality than cbr.

faac -b 192 input.wav
is about as close as you can get, keep in mind, faac is the worst quality aac encoder (at least one of the worst)

i recomend using the old psytel fastenc or aacenc, they can handle bitrate restriction a bit better too i think
