How do I strip silence from a wav file?

I have some wav files that have some patches of silence spread throughout the file. I would like to know if it is possible to use your control, preferably in BCB 5.0, to strip the silence from the files. Any sample code or demos you can point me towards that deal with this type of file manipulation would also be very appreciated.

If you set up dMC with a DSP effect (to remove silence) dMC will use that when controlled through scripting.
