Re: Where Can I Find the Relevant Codec?

My download attempts keep failing, ostensibly because of my firewall (even though I have tried disabling my firewalls).
At least their response hints that conversion of these files is possible.
Do we know where these files came from?

Wait, you mean you can't download from MegaUpload? Neither can I...I used to, before they started funding the site with adware.... That's why I've started using SaveFile Free FileHosting with no ads and Upload Hut.

But back on topic: I find it weird that the company itself can't recommend any good programs. Are there any alternative formats you can convert to?

Do note that I was able to play/convert the second file, which he already stated was the original one. The first file I was unable to play or record.

No. My problem is downloading from the siemens/benqmobile site.

I'm thinking that if you can remove teh bit of file header you have in teh wav file you can then use Spoon's new codec to add a prooper header.

Unfortunatley Audacity canot edit that wav file, it crashes as soon as it opens it.

Another wave editor program, Flexi Wave , that I used for that also cannot read it - but doesn't crash, it gives an error message.

Using Sony Sound Forge 7.0 I managed to access the file. At the moment it just sounds like noise
Here is a copy of something I saved:

When I save it I am asked the following:

At the moment I am trying all the combinations and learning about the different properties.

                He-he! Megaupload replied with:
Service temporarily unavailable due to site maintenance. Please check back in a few minutes.

                We apologize for the inconvenience.
Yes, I attempted to strip off the header from the file using a hex editor. I don't know if I got it all off however.

The I renamed it with the .raw extension and used the raw codec to convert to various file types and managed to get something that sounded remotely like your good file. A lot of noise too, and it seems to be faster. Maybe if I played with other parameters a bit more it might get better.
But I was sot of working in the dark, not knowing what the correct answers shoudl be for that program.

I think it's doable with a bit more effort and knowledge.

I got this much out of it:

Re: Where Can I Find the Relevant Codec?

Its faster probably because of the low sample rate of the original file (8KHz I believe).

I changed the sample rate to "4000Hz" and the format to "Sign Bit"

I have got the file to the right speed now but still noisy

ADPCM is compressed, only by installing a compatible .acm codec to ready DVI_ADPCM will you be able to read it.

                        Hi Spoon

Have you managed to play the file ok?

I found a codec that said it could play .acm files but it didnt seem to help me

                        Have you got any tips?

Of various wave compression types, there are about 100 - 200 different possible compressions within a wave file. Each requires a acm codec unless it is a standard one from within windows. You need to find a .acm to match that audio type.

How would I go about finding the relevant .acm?

I am willing to try 100 - 200 variations. Does anyone know of a site where I could try each codec one at a time?

Normally you need to find what created the file (for example there might be certain wave files which are created by a device and only the software supplied with that device has the correct acm driver).

Re: Where Can I Find the Relevant Codec?

The file couldn't be played, a relevant codec could not be found. I got a hands free connector that had a headphone jack output and connected it to my line-in on my pc.

I eventually managed to get the files off my phone and they are perfect. So with this I have now converted them to mp3 and have them on my newer phone.

Just thought I would post my final solution incase anyone else had a phone from the olden days that they needed to extract sound from. Thank you to everyone who helped me.

So thats the end of that chapter - Rob
