converting .ram to mp3
I have downloaded several decoders for converting .ram to mp3 but whatever i use, i end up with the same thing. That is, the converter keeps on going forever. I have to cancel that and try a different one. I checked all the decoders and nothing worked out. Please help and let me appreciate.

Well, I'll have to refer you to your older thread where you had a similar situation involving an.asx file, which a meta file just like .ram is: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=4766
.ram is the meta file for Real Media, so you can use Notepad to open it and see what's it in. Inside it contains the address of the actual real media file which you will have to download if you expect to convert it. If the address is stated as http://...... .ra or http://...... .rm , then you can download that file separately. If the address is stated as rttp://..... you cannot download the file, simple as that, since it comes from streaming media server.
Assuming you managed to get the .rm or .ra file saved on your pc, then you need real Player or Real One or Real Alternative in addition to the codec. The conversion through dMC will take place in real time, so no indication of progress will happen until it's done, and it takes the same time as it takes to play the file through the player.
If you cannot download the actual real media file, all you can do is record it through the sound card using dMC Auxiliary Input as it is being streamed and played through the player.

this sounds preety stupid... but seriously i dont belive in recording directly from the sound card. whatever the software may be, it cannot match the quality of the original file. so, i am not satisfied by the auxiliary input.
about the thread related to the conversion of .ram files, i dont understand why i am still not able to convert after following the whole procedure. what i mean is that the .ram file i have has completely alienated language in it that i cannot understand and the only words i see in the first line are about the file. it does not say anything about the http: or rttp: addresss. there is this address in it: http://www.classify.org/safesurf
i dont think i would be able to download the same file form here. anyways it has a file size of around 750kb and the length of the audio song is only about 4:30 minutes. after changing it to the extension of .ra and converting using the decoder mp3(lame), it still doesnt work out.Comment

I have no idea where the safesurf come from unless it's something installed on yoru computer and it plops itself into whatever you download.Originally posted by inferno

Play the file in Real Player and get the information about it by clikcing on File > Clip properties > Clip Source. Copy everything it tells you there about the clip and paste it here so we can see what you are dealing with.
At the same time please tell us what the settings are for the mp3 you want to convert to.Comment

Probably more that you are getting a very lo-fi mono real media file and trying to convert to relatively hi-fi stereo mp3 all in one shot. Too many things have to be changed.
Try to Convert first to wav at 44.1KHz, 16-bit, mono. If that works then convert that wav to mp3 . 128kbps will be pretty useless, it just takes up space without improving the quality.Comment
