In a thread last December Spoon indicated his hope that he would have a new better dat decoder soon. This has not happened so I am not very hopeful. What are using to decode the dat file right now, the VCD (dat) codec? If you do not have the TooLame codec installed you might try downloading and installing it, converting the dat file to mp2 and see if that plays ok. If it does then you might try converting the mp2 file to mp3.
If it works, please let us know.
If it fails, please let us know that too.
      Best wishes,
      Bill Mikkelsen

I've tried using TooLame codec and the result is the same sadly.

Can you test convert one of these files using Music Converter?
(The process is identical to an actual conversion except in the dMC window where you would select the file format for your converted file you choose "Test Conversion")?
