"3 matching key disks" for Purged drive?

I found my way here while trying to configure XLD to rip CDs to my Mac. When I looked up my external CD/DVD drive (ASUS SBC 06D2X-U) it came up as purged.

    Then I found this text:
"A small number of drives have [Purged] as the offset, these drives were found not to have a constant drive offset (perhaps different manufacturing batches, or firmwares), as such they have been removed from AccurateRip's drive database (should you have one of these drives, 3 matching key disks will be required to configure AccurateRip)."

What are key disks and where do I find them?

A key disc is a CD used for setting the offset on your drive, before checking the CRC for an Accurarip. Choose half a dozen or so discs, and keep feeding them until the offset is confirmed. Because of different pressings, even a common disc may not work - just try another. Depending on the CDs (and luck!), it may take one, or several. It is a once only job!

Thanks for the reply, Oggy. A few questions:
      What is the CRC?
Are you suggesting I pick half a dozen CDs from my collection at random? Once I put them in the CD transport, what do I do?
How do I know when the offset is confirmed and where will I see what the value is?

There seem to be a lot of settings throughout the preferences in XLD. Are there any other settings besides the offset that need to be entered, and what should they be? Any recommended adjustments to the defaults? I've downloaded XLD 20151214 (149.1) Is that the current version? And is there a guide to setting it up somewhere? All I've found is this, for an earlier version: http://www.digitalvertigo.co.uk/foru...howtopic=26740

        Mark,

This forum is for Accuraterip and dBpoweramp, for discussions about settings of XLD you would have to ask on their support forum.

A crc is the checksum of the ripped track, or the offset check result.

          Spoon--
OK, I'll refer the questions about XLD to their forum.

Still outstanding are my questions about Accuraterip:
Are you suggesting I pick half a dozen CDs from my collection at random? Once I put them in the CD transport, what do I do?
How do I know when the offset is confirmed and where will I see what the value is?

To be honest, I do not know what XLD does for drives it does not know about, does it try to match 3 discs? if it gives messages suggesting this when inserting one disc then perhaps it does, dBpoweramp on Windows does this.

I found the text in question on the Accuraterip web site (http://www.accuraterip.com/driveoffsets.htm)
