So I thought I could improve the naming to my preferences. What I have now is the track being located in a sub-folder (cd title)that is in another sub (artist name) in a sub-folder that I selected. Can I get back to selecting just the path without all the sub's ending up with a single track orphaned? The [set] for path did at one time give me all tracks together in just one folder. Hope this makes sense, I've got a headache chasing this issue.

Converting or ripping a CD?
You can always click [Set] then choose [Default] to get back to the default naming. -
Profile is "default" [set] in path takes me to Win. explorer. {set} in naming gives me a box maybe for writing script or directions I have not gotten into yet. My rip's are still ending up in a sub-folder of the cd name while that is in a sub-folder with the artist name that is in the folder in the "path"Comment

The default path is:
artist\album\track# - title
For compilations it is in Various Artists first.
On the Naming page click 'Default' to put as the above.Comment

If you are referring to the naming selection; only available is AlbumArtist\Album\TrackNum - Title. In the CD Ripper Naming the Default is clicked then OK. Status is still the same. I find no way to select artist\album\track#. It is not an option/available. I have been trying to investigate in your tutorials and various links and am still stranded with my tracks being orphaned in separate folders.Comment

Are you talking about the "Naming" in the main window? You can configure your own individual naming if you click on the set button in the main window of CD Ripper. Otherwise you can specify your naming for each encoder clicking on "Settings" if you use multi-encoder.

Maming is not the issue at this time. Path is the issue . . I think. But. This is where I'm lost. Have no idea what an "encoder" is. Can I re-install the db app? Is the info. in a sample tutorial I haven't found? I obviously have messed something up.Comment

So my need is to get a handle on naming. Curently I have this
[MAXLENGTH]80,[IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[IFCOMP]Various Artists[][IF!COMP][artist][][][]\[MAXLENGTH]80,[album][][IFMULTI], Disc [disc][]\[MAXLENGTH]80,[track] [artist] - [title][]
Example + Album Artist\Album Title\05 Artist - Title
in the box I think you are talking about. Now do I need to address this area?
This is really humbling.Comment

Click set, delete what is there, and try this naming string:
[MAXLENGTH]240,[IFCOMP]Various Artists\[album]\[IFMULTI]\[disc][].[track] - [title] - [artist][][IF!COMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[artist][]\[album]\[IFMULTI]\[disc][].[track] - [title][][]
Your path should be something like:
C:\Music
or whatever your parent folder is that you want to save all your music files in....Comment

OK! I've tried about all the scenarios, and butchering some, but can't come up with a naming that works for me.
HELP!
I am not interested in any "folders" in the naming. I do that in the "path".
What I have is 4 Cd's collection with various artist on each CD. My Path includes the CD#. All i want in the "naming is the; title - artist - Track # - Album Name.
The "artist" might come from any of the various available but most likely be listed with the track "title"
Is this even possible?
TIA

The suggested naming string i suggested above creates an ARTIST folder and then a separate ALBUM folder for each album. All tracks of an album are in that folder. If it is a multidisc album. The tracks are numbered 1.01, 1.02, 2.01. 2.02, etc. what about this doesnt work for you.
of course this all assumes your metadata is correct, eg ARTIST, TRACK, TITLE, ALBUM, DISC, etc.Last edited by garym; May 08, 2025, 08:40 PM.Comment

I am not interested in any "folders" in the naming. I do that in the "path". The CD name Folder could be useful though.
I have ripped about 125 CD's and cutting tracks to be pasted where I want them. Then deleting the ripped folders created by DBPoweramp.
It may help to explain my education. Prior to Commodore 64 or GWBasic. Scripting, Macrowing, programing were never on the curricular.
When I doug enough to find Naming could be manipulated I ended up over my head.Comment

Hmmm. I am not sure exactly what you are trying to achieve with path vs naming string. Seems like you are trying to use the tool wrong. Perhaps one can use a wrench to hammer a nail, but better to use a hammer (that is, use the correct tool).
you dont need to be over your head with naming. Ive given you a naming string that will achieve what you want. You just need to be able to copy and paste.
ps i also started with computers in the Commodore 64 and TRS80 days and COBOL and BASIC programming.Last edited by garym; Yesterday, 06:43 AM.👍 1Comment
