"Multi-CD Add Disc to Album"... Change to square brackets?

Hi

Is it possible to change this so that in multi-disc sets rather than putting "Disc 1" after a comma it puts it into square brackets instead?

For example,

Default is: We Are the Romans, Disc 1

Can I change this to: We Are the Romans [Disc 1]


I know it is being a pedantic, but hey - isn't that what tagging's all about!?!?

I think you can do this with ID Tag Processing in dbpa. I can easily do this as well with mp3tag by doing an action that automatically replaces ", Disc 1" with " [Disc 1]" (in the %album% field, i.e., ALBUM name tag). There is a fancier way of doing it to deal with any disk number as well (regedit), but I'd probably just run it for Disc 1, Disc 2, Disc 3, etc. separately. Or when ripping, just Change the Album name in the ripping screen to "We Are the Romans [Disc 1]". And turn off the setting that automatically adds the Disc number after the album name.

Note the above assumes you are talking about the way the album tag is filled. If you're talking about the actual file or folder name created for the ripped files, it is even easier using dynamic naming.

instead of using this in your dynamic naming string: [album]
use this:
[album] [Disc [Disc]]

This will produce a subdirectory named: We Are the Romans [Disc 1]
p.s. this assumes "[" is an allowed character in a windows file name or directory....can't recall.

I've seen that setting.... I tried experimenting, but none of them do what I want. Is it possible to type in something to get what I'm after, and if so what do I need to type in there? Otherwise, I'll go with Gary's suggestion of typing it manually for double albums.


OTOH, I am a little tempted to forget splitting altogether and treat some doubles as singles (especially live albums which are only split because CDs are not long enough). So ALL tracks from both CDs would be in one folder, all with the same album title. I could use the Track Number Offset feature so that all the tracks run sequentially. Any down side to doing this???

RE: filenaming. I have not got around to sorting that yet. When I do, I will want it to follow whatever I decide to do with the tagging (preferably).

I don't put Disc number in my album titles at all. Instead on multi disc Albums, I simply call the album the name of the album only, and then I have the DISC tag field fill in with the disk number (i.e., 1/3, 2/3, 3/3). Then most players (mine included) will list these in order (i.e., Disc 1, track 1...N; Disc 2, track 1...N, etc.). Then in my dynamic naming for the files themselves, there is an album subdirectory, and underneath there is a subdirectory for each Disc, i.e.,

music\artist\album\disc 1\ tracks...
............................\disk 2\tracks...
etc.

None. Indeed, I think it makes a lot more sense.

As you say, the multiple CDs are just a function of the physical media's limitations, an issue that doesn't exist in your digital library.

Hehe - it's funny how a question about square brackets has led to a total re-thinking about the file naming and tagging of multiple disc albums! I'm glad I asked now!

Or you can name the files like this:
[disc].[track] [artist] - [title]

and you don't have to worry about the Track Number Offset
