    Play music using DB PowerAmp

    Very basic question.

Can Poweramp sort music into libraries etc on a computer or is it just used for ripping CD's ?

    Thanks.
    ( said it was basic).

Can you elaborate? (Especially on the "etc" part....)

Sort music into libraries? If you mean move files as per your particular organizational scheme, yes. It can do that either during ripping, or with post-rip processing. If you mean something else, please explain.

dBp is actually a suite of related programs.....CD Ripper is one of them, of course, but it also includes a CD Writer utility (for burning your own CDs), and a Music Converter utility (for converting existing audio files to different codecs). The Batch Converter is essentially a batch-based version of the converter.

There's a basic music player utility within the CD Ripper. But it's best viewed, I think, as a convenience if you need to listen to a file (say, to identify it, etc) while ripping. dBp is not a media player (like iTunes, Foobar, or the like).

Thanks, I think you've answered my query. What I meant was would dBp automatically sort the music I had ripped from CD's into the different categories, ( jazz, classical etc) in the same way that say Media Monkey does. Or will I still need Media Monkey or similar on top of dBp.

      Thanks.

In Codec Central under utility codec is [arrange audio] you convert the tracks to this codec and they are renamed based on the ID Tags.

Okay, what you're talking about are really media player functions. Being able to look at your music library by various categories is not actually sorting the files themselves, but just offering different views of the library. So it sounds to me like you don't need dBp for the things you're asking about.

Think of dBp as more of a "lower-level" tool for building your digital music library. It's for ripping your CDs, adding metadata (tags, volume normalization info, etc) to the files, and helping you organize the physical files wherever you choose to store them. With that library as the "source," you can then use whatever player(s) you like, including MediaMonkey, for browsing and playing your music.
